Jittery GOP hopes for a Bush vision
Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Nervous Republicans are urging President Bush to unveil a robust second-term agenda at his convention next week to shift voters' focus from the unpopular war in Iraq and other issues that are a distraction to his re-election drive. Some contend the party should ditch the GOP-fueled controversy over rival John Kerry's combat record in Vietnam.

"If he gets on the future and effectively talks about the challenges that are ahead that only he can meet, then he'll be fine," said Joe Gaylord, a Republican strategist from Washington. "But if this campaign continues to be about Vietnam and the past, I don't think he's going to do so fine. I think it's a little dicey." ..

"Enough," said Allen Miller, a delegate from Florida. "We've dealt with this for three weeks. I served in Vietnam. That's not the issue here. What George Bush did in the Texas Air National Guard isn't the issue. What's the issue is what the president will do for the country if he gets four more years."

"My gut is we're probably a little late" unveiling Bush's agenda, the 57-year-old financial planner said. "Would it have been wise to do it in March? Nope. People weren't paying attention." ..

PROTECT THE RICH FROM TAXATION. THEY DODGE YOU PAY. SO YOU SHOULD PAY MORE.

Honestly, once the Democrats roll that out on their campaign ads it's all over.

3. I'm very afraid.
Four more years of * shit will be the end of democracy and freedom as we know it even now in the current corruption.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

4. While I'm not afraid, I agree with your concerns.
I think all the excitement lately about the Kerry spurt (and that's all it amounts to, IMO) has made some Democrats overly optimistic. I'm not so sure * has to cheat in order to be elected in November, because there are an awful lot of people who either genuinely like the guy, or would vote Republican no matter what. My take on the country is that it is mostly conservative, mostly Republican, and mostly religious--by which I mean Christian. Getting the populace to stand behind a progressive agenda has been all but impossible for our entire history, usually requiring violence and bloodshed before anything is accomplished. (How utterly ironic that is!)

Four more years of this tyranny will end any hope I have of ever actually creating an egalitarian country.

8. VERY FEW people "genuinely like the guy."
He doesn't have loyal friends who have stuck with him over the years. He's a vengeful, cruel little prick who will force you to play tennis till you let him win. His humor consists entirely of snide, nasty humiliations of others. He wiped his glasses on the back of a woman's JACKET WHILE SHE WAS WEARING IT. He patted his wife's ass in public, ON A PODIUM.

This is not a likable guy.

He didn't win the popular vote last time, and he's a lot less popular this time. I've heard of ONE person who didn't vote for him last time who will this time. I've heard of MANY who did vote for him last time who never will again.

So where are his new votes coming from?

14. Same here.
I know of two people who plan to vote for him, and THAT'S IT. I have heard nothing but disappointment and/or disgust.

5. "that are a distraction to his re-election drive"???
A 'distraction'? The AP states that as a FACT? That "Iraq and other issues" are a mere distraction?

Jeesus! Somebody get a rope! :grr: :grr:

The bastards can fuck up five ways from sundown and the presstitutes call it a 'distraction' and spend months making the total fabrication of "inventing the Internet" or "He's French-looking" into a substitute for news? Such sleazy crap should be a capital offense!

6. I totally agree.
Sometimes I think my head is going explode when I listen to or watch mainstream media. My solution is to seek alternative sources for my news headlines and shun the "presstitutes." (BTW, great term!)

7. We will be given a spectacle
A vision of faith, military might, and free markets (except for oil, and no contract oversees adventures).

We will be told of the amazing Bush recovery that is surely just around the next tax cut for the rich.

We will be shown more of Cheney, the humanitarian, and Bush the compassionate.

In short, I recommend starting on the nausea meds Sunday, just to be sure.

9. I'd rather watch infomercials for
hemmoroid cream or a Barney marathon than waste a second on the repukes. I'll check in here to keep up with the protests - the only convention related events worth knowing about.

Do they think he's going to descend from his helicopter into his bulletproof bubble with stone tablets containing the next decalogue?

15. Big Corporations has absorbed junior's vision - plus the blood and sweet
from the middle class and the poor. What else can junior see?

Big business must horse whip the media into shape if junior is gonna win.
