Bush strategy puts high value on values
CNN

Whereas Republicans hope to sway voters' minds with details on economic policy, national security and plans for Iraq at their party convention, they'll likely stress values in a bid to win over hearts -- much like the Democrats tried to do a month before.

Emphasizing values, closely associated in GOP dogma with preserving the traditional family and conservative mores, has been integral to the party's identity and success for decades. This year has been no different, with the president and vice president repeating the assertion that they best represent ordinary Americans' beliefs and depicting themselves as "compassionate conservatives." ..

But in a heated campaign, few say they expect that Republicans will do anything but focus intently on values, especially in targeting Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic nominee. As much as the Bush campaign wants to prove its beliefs best represent the nation's, it also hopes to depict Kerry as insincere and out-of-touch with mainstream America. ..

letting saudis see top-secret maps........per......interview Sunday on 60 Minutes

What has caused a stir over the past several days is Woodward’s charge that before Bush informed Secretary of State Colin Powell of his decision, he gave Cheney and Rumsfeld permission to inform Saudi Ambassador Prince Bandar bin Sultan about the war plans. Woodward says they even showed Bandar a top-secret map of the war plan. Woodward charges that Cheney and Rumsfeld first briefed Bandar at the White House on January 11, 2003.

7. Democrats must smoke the bush coward out
The bush coward hides behind these "values and character" issue, he uses it to cover all his mistakes and people buy it up. Democrats must show the myth that he has high morals or sound values is a farce. He is a coward that hides behind others that do his dirty work, he hides behind God, claiming he is doing his work, when in reality he is using every Christian out there, pretending to work for Christ when in fact he is only using his name. Unfortunately democrats like to talk and discuss, they don't see the importance of fighting to make sure the media shows how much a liar the coward bush is, democrats need to speak up, they need to stand up , they need to make sure America see this coward for what he is.

2. Please, don't focus on what we _do_, focus on what we _would do_.
--props to Rob Corddry.

Torture, war, anger, fear & loathing - don't look at what we've caused, focus on what we would LIKE to cause.

10. Translate it as
Putting a high value on talking about values. Otherwise, its redundant.

So when Bush says Values, he means, using an ad campaign touting values, not that he should personally have any. In fact, talking about values is the way he can lie and cheat and steal.

Like Newt Gingrinch's speeches about new ideas, he didn't actually HAVE any, he simply said new ideas were good things to come up with.

Bush sees values, like military service and compassion, as things that are important to others, but he has other priorities.

4. Kerry "out of touch with mainstream America"?
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 12:54 PM by wildflower
Voters must sign loyalty oaths to see the president speak; John Kerry says come one, come all--even his protestors. Who is out of touch?

* is locked in his tower (the convention hall) with all of his security around him while the voters of America protest on the streets below. Who is out of touch?

I could go on...

13. Values such as these?
"Blessed are the Merciful, for they shall obtain mercy."

"Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called Sons (and Daughters) of God."

"For I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
I was a Stranger and you Welcomed me,
I was naked and you clothed me,
I was sick and you visited me,
I was in prison and you came to me.'
Truly, I say to you,
as you did it to
one of the least of these,
my brethren,
you did it to me."

"Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."

Oh... my bad... I must be confused about which "Christian values" Bush is supposed to represent. Must be related to this Connnecticut-born son of wealth & privilege passing himself off as a homespun champion of the "common man".
