What an interesting turn-up for the books.

LONDON (AFP) - British opposition leader Michael Howard snapped back at the White House after a report that it had banned him from ever being invited to meet US President George W. Bush (news - web sites).

Bush's close adviser Karl Rove warned the Conservative party leader he would never be let in at the White House, The Sun tabloid newspaper said Saturday, adding that Howard had incurred Bush's wrath by criticizing Prime Minister Tony Blair over the Iraq war.

Rove had called Howard's office in February, it said, and left the message: "You can forget about meeting the president, full stop. Don't bother coming, you are not meeting him."

Howard's office initially refused to comment on the report, but then issued a defiant statement defending his criticism of Blair and accusing the Bush administration of trying to "protect" its ally.

1. I can't believe they had their political hack make the phone call.
They are such nasty bullies it is mind boggling even though I know I shouldn't be surprised.

2. Disgraceful arrogance
....but all too believable.

So much for the Tory/Repug Thatcher- Reagan alliance. In time - even the majority of republicand w3ill realise that the BFEE is exactly that - an evil empire driven by family self-interest and completely without morality or shame.

3. I'm sorry, have I missed something, when did Rove receive any type
of appointment to any office in the United States that allows him to speak for the country? I know he is * lackey, but that does not authorize him to reprimand, threaten or admonish any one.

I think Rove should be prosecuted for imitating a member of the admin (not to mention a human being).

5. It just shows that "Neoconservative"= neofascism
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 03:29 PM by TahitiNut
There's nothing conservative about the neokon Republican Party. It's been taken over by a cabal of corporatists, a grab bag of single-issue sycophantic hate groups, and a collection of authoritarian megalomaniacs and resembles the Nazi party of 1920's-30's Germany more and more every day.

6. How odd...
They're friends with the leader of a "left-wing" party, but aren't interested in helping out the leader of a "right-wing" party

7. I *LOVE* to hear Rove's name and tactics hit the news...
Rove is a sociopath, and the curtain hiding him needs to be pulled back.
