FBI espionage probe goes beyond Israeli allegations, sources say

WASHINGTON - An FBI probe into the handling of highly classified material by Pentagon civilians is broader than previously reported, and goes well beyond allegations that a single mid-level analyst gave a top-secret Iran policy document to Israel,three sources familiar with the investigation said Saturday.

In addition, one said, FBI investigators in recent weeks have conducted interviews to determine whether Pentagon officials gave highly classified U.S. intelligence to a leading Iraqi exile group, the Iraqi National Congress, which may in turn have passed it on to Iran. INC leader Ahmed Chalabi has denied his group was involved in any wrongdoing.

The linkage, if any, between the two leak investigations, remains unclear.

But they both center on the office of Undersecretary of Defense Douglas Feith, the Pentagon's No. 3 official.

Feith's office, which oversees policy matters, has been the source of numerous controversies over the last three years. Hisoffice had close ties to Chalabi and was responsible for post-war Iraq planning that the administration has now acknowledged was inadequate. Before the war, Feith and his aides pushed the now-discredited theory that former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was in league with al-Qaida.

That analyst, Larry Franklin, works for Feith's deputy, William Luti, and served as an important - albeit low-profile - advisor on Iran issues to Feith and Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz.

Now, I don't know much about Jabotinsky -- but when I was growing up, I never heard him called a "great revisionist." Instead, I heard him called a fascist. So I Goggled a little and found this:

In other words, Jabotinsky was both a terrorist (Stern Gang, Irgun) and a fascist. (Yeah, I know you can't trust Hitchins, but since this merely confirms what I was told as a kid by my left-wing Jewish parents, I'm fully inclined to believe it.)

This is particularly disquieting because Michael Ledeen has been the open advocate of a brand of fascism, and has close ties to the neo-fascist Italian right. (Those ties are probably why the forged Niger uranium documents were disseminated via Italian intelligence.) And many of the neocons are followers of Leo Strauss, who if not precisely a fascist was certainly an elitist with strong totalitarian tendencies.

The reality of Jewist fascism -- in the 30's and since -- is one of those things Jews don't like to talk about. But it's there in the neocon mix, and it's going to have to be confronted.

not realizing the FBI was monitoring. Then, FBI and State Dept people make the secret trip to Baghdad to raid Chalabi's offices without Rumsfeld's knowledge, and not even advising the military in Baghdad what they were doing. Chalabi had already given the info to Iran by then. Of course, then Chalabi became radioactive and the damage control began.

Hopefully this will be a lot more than just a single Jonathan Pollard type thing. This article seems to imply that it is more.
