Rock Band Has Republicans Seeing Orange
New York, NY (PRWEB)

Some Republicans have been seething about New York rock band Audio Fiction’s just released single “Tick Tock”, a subtle attack on George W. Bush and his reasons for invading Iraq. As lyrics in the song say, “life is good if you're on the right side” perfectly epitomizes the attitude of the Bush administration according to some critics. “Tick Tock” is their first single from their debut record Songs in the Key of Orange Alert. The band denies that the timing of the GOP convention is related to the release schedule.

“The song is certainly inspired by Bush’s march into Iraq looking for non-existent WMD’s. But we’re not all politics -- it’s a catchy pop song,” says lead singer Mimi Ferraro. She then quipped, “but I could see why the chorus line, ‘I am the American Psycho’ would bother the Republicans.” Mark O’Toole, drummer for the band, dismissed recent talk that the band is affiliated with MoveOn.org . “We’re a rock band. We are not a part of any organization but hey, it would be nice if Washington actually paid New York City the money it promised us for homeland security.” Ed Gillespie, Chairman of the Republican National Committee declined to comment.

The record’s title, "Songs in the Key of Orange Alert", is inspired by the New York “terror alert” status under which the songs were written. While no other track on the record is as overtly political as the aforementioned anti-Bush anthem “Tick Tock,” each song deals in one way or another with the anxiety endemic to our place and time. ..

“To the band's surprise and amusement, the song has already been embraced by Democrats and Liberals alike when it comes to questioning the current administration’s policies in Iraq. While the song has a serious subject matter, it is played as a catchy pop/ rock song with a healthy dose of irony and catchy riffs,” ModernRock.com

2. Wow, I'm getting old
I have never heard of this band.

But cool, sounds like a great tune. TFB if the Republicans don't like it. Of course it is just another enemy for them for the war on artists.

6. I was wondering about this last night as I was listening to CSN&Y
I was listening to So Far, and "Tin Soldiers" came on. There were so many songs that were directly or indirectly critical of administration activities back then. I wondered how many - if any - popular artists have rekindled the art of political music. When things are relatively good, music is relatively bland - but when the state of the country and the world is at its worse, good musicians start writing hard hitting songs.

It is good to see that this is happening again.

7. Related: check out Green Day's new single, "American Idiot"
A delicious post-punk blast at right wing media and its consumers.

8. I'm "really old" according to my teenage daughter, but I'm familiar
with some contemporary anti war, anti Bush music.

I especially like "Megalomaniac" by Incubus and "Mass Destruction" by Faithless.

"Mass Destruction" is really haunting, some of the lyrics below:

"Whether inflation or globalisation
Fear is a weapon of mass destruction"

"Whether your soaraway Sun or BBC 1
Dis-information is a weapon of mass destruction"

"Whether Haliburton or Enron or anyone
Greed is a weapon of mass destruction"

This is just a snippet...BTW, Green Day is great, it's been a while since their last album. I'm looking forward to hearing it. MKJ

11. Are you talking about Faithless?
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 05:40 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
They're a British band, with a hybrid rock, techno and Reggae sound...maybe a little hip hop thrown in for good measure. They do quite a bit of socially relevant, and at times subversive, music. "Mass Destruction" is, I think, their best work. They directly address GWB's claim of WMD in Iraq...and his own policies which create mass destruction.
