Rice was named more than any other Republican as the party's potential nominee for president in 2008, according to an Associated Press survey. Twelve percent of Oregon delegates named Rice as their top choice for 2008, compared with 8 percent each for New York Gov. George Pataki and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. Rice was also a popular choice as a running mate for President Bush if Vice President Dick Cheney steps aside - - an outcome Republicans in Oregon and nationwide say is unlikely. ..

Delegate Jackie Stovall of Beaverton said she is confident Nader not only will get on the ballot in Oregon, but will get enough votes to hurt Kerry.

"We're going to help him do it," she said.
