McCain, Giuliani Speeches to Praise Bush (excerpts released to press Sun.)
NEW YORK (AP) -- Sen. John McCain and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, two of the Republican Party's most popular politicians, open President Bush's nominating convention by calling him a leader unafraid of making unpopular choices to protect a nation scarred by the Sept. 11 attacks.

``He has not flinched from the hard choices. He will not yield. And neither will we,'' McCain said in excerpts of his Monday address released by the campaign the night before. The four-day convention ends Thursday with Bush's acceptance address.

Giuliani, who was mayor of New York at the time, compares Bush with former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and former President Ronald Reagan, two leaders who he said rose above criticism to confront threats posed by Nazism and Communism, respectively.

``George W. Bush saw and described terrorism for the evil that it is and he will remain consistent to the purpose of defeating it while working to make us ever safer at home,'' Giuliani said in excerpts of his speech text.

2. Wasn't McCain....
put on the commission by Bush to investigate the intelligence failure leading up to the war and whether Bush and his thugs had anything to do with the hyping of the threat?

Hahaha...I am sure McCain will do a great job on that commission...haha!

4. WHat a shame McCain didn't run as Kerry's VP
I hope the guys who were pushing that particular fantasy are paying attention.

Just like the Log Cabin gays, loyalty to the party trumps honor, decency and common sense among the Repukelicans.

McCain is a brave man but that doesn't prevent him from being a fool.

What were their roles in 9-11 do you suppose to protect these facists to this extent?

8. McCain used to have decency......what happened?
I guess he has no choice, but how can he live with himself? Hasn't he noticed how badly these people have treated the country?

9. 3,000 dead is being strong on National Security?
Bush ignored everyhing Richard Clarke warned him about & went on vacation...thats "strong leadership"?

Rudy put a command center in the WTC complex, not a very intelligent thing to do, considering the WTC had been previously attacked.

I often wonder why Rudy & Pataki are never held responsible for not protecting this city better, themselves.

Rudy has milked 9/11 for everything its worth, nice book deal, speaking engagements, made lots of money for himself off
this tragedy.

McCain is a disgrace, didn't even stand up for Cleland.
