Fort Bragg paratroopers still in hospital after fatal (truck) accident
FORT BRAGG, N.C. (AP)

.. Seven paratroopers were being treated Friday at Fort Bragg's Womack Army Medical Center, one at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, one at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill and one at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Fort Bragg officials refused to discuss Thursday's fatal accident, but took reporters to the accident scene Friday afternoon. Black tire tracks led off the road, through a pair of parallel tracks gouged in the roadside dirt to a large pine tree with chunks of bark missing. The roadside and tree were surrounded in yellow tape marking the scene of an ongoing investigation.

It appears that all of the soldiers injured were in the truck at the time of the wreck, division spokesman Pfc. Michael Pryor said. ..

1. There's definately something going on with these truck wrecks.
How many aren't being reported? They are always in local papers that Nambe seems to dig up. This is the fifth that I remember.

2. Stateside
This happened in NC. Fort Bragg. I live near by and there are accidents that happen as part of military training. Car accidents, falls, asthma deaths.

It is very sad but these things happened before we were in Iraq. The archives of the Fayetteville paper will support this.

I feel for their families.

3. Fort Bragg is a dangerous place
Paratroopers are weird about safety. They do all this ultra-anal safety stuff during parachute operations; as a result, it's very unusual to hear of someone getting killed on a jump. (Injured on a jump is another matter--there are ALWAYS injuries on a jump. The Fort Bragg safety billboard is unlike any other--instead of "days without an injury" it reads "days without a fatality" because three or four troops fuck themselves up every time they do an operation and there are jumps on Bragg every night. Right now that billboard has a tarp over it.) Once on the ground, they immediately go into Mass Safety Stupidity mode.

It sucks that someone died--but people die on Fort Bragg all the time.
