Leader's `mistreatment' sparks anger - Nepal
AP , KATMANDU

A Nepalese activist, right, shouts slogans as he and others gather around a burning tire during a demonstration at Ratna Park, close to the Royal Palace in Kathmandu, Sunday, during a one-day general strike called by Nepali Congress. The day long strike has been called by the party after Nepali Congress President and former prime minister Girija Prasad Koiral was prevented by security forces from boarding a flight to Bhairawaha in western Nepal on Saturday.

Opposition activists hurled stones, torched vehicles and forced stores to close yesterday in the Nepalese capital to enforce a general strike against the alleged mistreatment of a party leader.

The nationwide shutdown was called to protest an incident on Saturday in which Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was barred by soldiers from being dropped off at the main airport terminal in the capital of Katmandu.

The army later apologized for what it said was a simple misunderstanding.

1. "a simple misunderstanding"- This isn't a bar fight, it's an army.
Nepal is such an amazing place, this is truely sad.
