Cheney Tries to Stir Memories of Bush in Days After 9/11
No sooner had Vice President Dick Cheney stepped onto Ellis Island yesterday from Liberty IV, a tugboat assigned to the National Park Service, than he gestured to the shimmering skyline of Lower Manhattan and urged several hundred supporters to remember the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the precarious state of the nation's security now.

"In the weeks following the terrorist attacks on America, people in every part of the country, regardless of party, took great comfort and pride in the conduct and the character of our president," Mr. Cheney said. "They saw a man calm in a crisis, comfortable with responsibility and determined to do everything necessary to protect our people."

Saying "we all remember" President Bush's visit to ground zero in the days after the attacks - when he shouted through a bullhorn, "I can hear you," to the gathered rescue workers, adding, "The people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon."

snip.........

"There are those in this world who have set themselves against the freedoms that we enjoy," Mr. Cheney told the crowd earlier. "They have attacked our nation and they wish to do us further harm. But with the leadership of this president and the resilience of the American people, we will meet the challenges of our time."

2. SEVEN MINUTES...SEVEN MINUTES....SEVEN MINUTES....and
he would have sat there longer, after being told the country is UNDER ATTACK, if an aide hadn't told him to get his ass up.

SEVEN MINUTES. Country under attack. SEVEN MINUTES.

'nuf said.

22. That was the calm part
Why do I see the image of Alfred E. Nueman saying: "What? Me worry?" whenever I think of those 7 minutes he sat their while lives were in the balance. He coulda saved so many people in those few minutes if he'd have gotten just a wee-bit excited over America being attacked.

Any good leader would have sprung into action and brought America's defenses online, right then and there. Any good leader.

4. Since 9-11, they've trotted out the same speech, over and over.
"...Terror, terror, terror, they hate us for our freedom, they're coming after us again, yada, yada, yada."

Didn't these clowns work up any fresh material for their convention?

6. I just got in from precinct
walking 'n turned on C-span and that evil rat bastard was delivering those very lines. I could not find the remote fast enough, all the while thinking there were at least 3 people in this house that took no comfort and had no pride in the conduct of a coward hiding out all over the country when his ass BELONGED in DC. He is not comfortable w/ responsibility cuz he doesn't have any experience w/ it. If he was determined 2 do 'anything necessary' 2 protect the public, there would have been investigations started on Sept 12.

Give me a f*cking break! lame-ass, evil forked-tongue snake.

(I sincerely beg forgiveness of any snakes offended)

8. He did not say -
"The people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon."

He said, "The folks who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon."

As if they were just some rowdy bumpkins out having some fun on a Tuesday morning.

Fucker.

10. do these people say anything that isn't a trite cliche?
"a man calm in a crisis, comfortable with responsibility and determined to do everything necessary to protect our people"

so now total inaction and ineptness is seen as being "calm."

running and hiding all day, like a dog with his tail between his legs, as seen as "comfortable with responsibility."

stonewalling re 9/11 commission, washing out 28 pages that incriminate your blood-sucking Saudi brethren, holding hands with Saudi terrorists, waging war on a country that had nothing to do with 9/11 instead of intensifying search for known terrorists, cutting the budget to the bone of security at home--these are all now seen as doing "everything necessary to protect our people."

whatever. pity is that some dumb@ss Americans still give you or any other Repuke a dimes-worth of credibility.

20. Coward running from bunker to bunker ...
GW Bush, with the entire military of the US to protect him, cowered in bunkers for DAYS after 9-11. His actions were a display of utter cowardice and lack of leadership.
A true leader would have immediately returned to the Capitol or gone immediately to New York. "General, give me an F-15 escort, I'm going to New York."
Bush has never displayed courage and was true to his character on 9-11. Anyonne who claims he displayed leadership after 9-11 doesn't have a fkkking clue what leadership is.

15. You're right, when he went down the "hidey hole"
this is what I recall;someone asked reporter Anne Compton, "where did the pRestident go?" She replied, "down the bunny-hatch". I do think that's when he got named "Bunny Pants". Anyone else remember that too?

17. Cheney Six Feet Under
He was mentioned in Six Feet Under last night. A teen was illegally picking flowers in a park. She told the park ranger "I can pick these. Dick Cheney is my father!"

18. pfffft
I saw the clip again this morning of the pretend pResident with the bullhorn, but what these puff pieces don't mention is that we DIDN'T "get these folks who knocked down these buildings".

Bin Laden is still on the loose, because we put all of our resources in Iraq. Afghanistan is a total mess outside of Kabul, and as we learned yesterday the Taliban is still alive and well. This wasn't his 'finest moment', this was another 'mission accomplished' moment because it's all words and NO results.

19. Voters try to remember where Bush was in days after 9/11
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 09:21 AM by hatrack
Let's see . . . there was the Florida Goatathon.

Then there was standing around the schoolroom for 20 minutes, I guess so Bush could spend time recovering from the intellectual rigor of what he'd just endured.

Then AFB #1 in Lousiana.

Then came AFB #2 in Nebraska.

Then came the White House at 11:00 PM EDT on the 11th.

Then, three days later came the incoherent bellowing and prop fireman lean.

Inspiring when you think back on it, isn't it?

21. It's gonna be a long month (sigh)
I only wish we were lucky enough to have commercials for the F9/11 DVD release blitzing the airwaves during September to take advantage both of the anniversary and the wealth of GOP comments that are themselves seeking to take advantage of the anniversary. People need a relentless reminder of just how empty and meaningless Bush's "leadership" was; had we a leader "determined to do everything necessary to protect our people", instead of one just determined to do everything necessary to protect his own ass, 9/11 would be just another day on the calendar.

But you won't hear that coming from the loyal opposition...
