McCain urges 'corrupt' FEC leaders to resign
August 30, 2004

The Federal Election Commission leadership is "corrupt" and should resign for refusing to regulate political groups that are spending millions of dollars to attack both presidential candidates, Sen. John McCain said yesterday.

The Arizona Republican and co-author of the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law called the FEC "disgraceful and despicable in its conduct" for allowing independent groups to exploit the Section 527 tax designation and raise millions of donations in soft money.

<snip>

Mr. McCain said commission Vice Chairman Ellen Weintraub is an "apparatchik" of the Democratic Party and that Chairman Bradley Smith, a Republican appointee, does not believe in the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform, so both "should resign because they refuse to enforce the law."

"When Ms. Weintraub says that it's too confusing to enforce the law ? for three years they were supposed to enforce the law against 527s. Why? Because the law says any organization that engages in partisan political activity shall be governed by the same campaign finance laws. They refuse to enforce that," Mr. McCain said.

1. Clean house!
The FEC is a joke and has been a joke for a long time. We need non-partisan citizens as members in the FEC and stop using party hacks to police the two parties. You wouldn't think of asking the Mafia to police itself!

8. The problem is that the Supreme Court
in the 1850's (or so) ruled that corporations have all the rights of a human being. The ruling was back door and fraudulent, but it exists today

Corporations could just spin off 1,000's of subsidiaries and give $$$$.

But, other than that, I really do like your idea!

4. We need funding for political candidates
need to take back OUR airwaves, & give time to candidates.

We also need debates sponsored by a neutral group, not the Dems & Repugs that run sham events.

And we need to limit the time of campaigns. People are already talking about candidates for 2008.

6. It isn't the FEC, it's McCain/Feingold that is a mess.
It deprives us independent thinkers of our right to free speech. It tries to push everybody into one or the other party mold. It just doesn't work.

spoken like a true lapdog. I'm sure W will reward you with some Snausages.

Why don't you try to show that you have some real integrity and ask a few members of this utterly corrupt administration to resign? And for crissakes, STOP campaigning for the man that slandered your wife and child!

13. McCain is an ass hole and knows
That the FEC has no teeth and can (at it's worse) sanction as a punishment, because McCain - Feingold failed to give it any authority to kick any ass. It was theater and shadows on the cave wall from the Git. What a friggin prick this guy is!

14. Whaaa...gimmie back my ball...I'm goin' home!!
527s are working for Dems, while the $2000/ max hard money contributions work for the GOP.

McCain's solution: screw the Democrats.
