Bush on terror war: 'I don't think you can win it.'
AP via Star Tribune: http://www.startribune.com/stories/587/4955235.html

WASHINGTON -- President Bush says staying the course in the war on terror will make the world safer for future generations, though he acknowledges an all-out victory against terrorism may not be possible.

In an interview on NBC-TV's ``Today'' show broadcast to coincide with today's start of the Republican National Convention in New York, Bush said retreating from the war on terror ``would be a disaster for your children.'''

``You cannot show weakness in this world today because the enemy will exploit that weakness,'' he said. ``It will embolden them and make the world a more dangerous place.''

When asked ``Can we win?'' the war on terror, Bush said, ``I don't think you can win it. But I think you can create conditions so that the - those who use terror as a tool are - less acceptable in parts of the world.''

1. he's like a fish out of water! you wouldn't suppose, bushie, that some
people, somewhere, might see YOU as the terrorist, and that's why we are less acceptable in "certain parts of the world?" oh, no... that would be too much of a stretch for herr chimpmeister.

3. Usurper boy couldn`t even win his election. He had to steal it with help.
And of course being the most powerful terrorist in the world. Thanks to the Latrine Courts help. He has used terror to help him stay in power. By hook or crook. Which he is.

4. "You cannot show weakness ..." ???
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 08:53 AM by TahitiNut
That's all the yellow-livered pervert has ever shown! There's not a fucking thing that's 'strong' about sending other people's children to invade and occupy a fourth rate country with a population 1/10th the size of the US and which spent less than 1/100th as much as the US on its military!

There's nothing but weakness demonstrated in dropping bombs on women and children from 40,000 feet. It's weak-minded, weak-hearted, and weak-kneed!

Weakness and cowardice are this bully's lifetime addictions. He can't wipe his own ass without help. He's never demonstrated the courage of even a flea.

What an obscene joke this corrupt little slime ball is!

7. imagine if Kerry had said this
it would be a huge gaffe.

But since Bush said it, they'll say "the terrorists know what he meant..."

15. Exactly.
I thought the same thing, Cocoa. If Kerry let this fly at a campaign stop, the media and the repubs would FREAK. They'd call him a traitor for not showing confidence in the justice, purity and righteousness of our cause. But when Bush says it? <crickets>

8. Well, duh; of course you can't "win" a "war on terrorism," asshat.
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 09:28 AM by belle
or, more precisely, a "war on terror," which is what they've been calling it. "War on Drugs." "War on Terror." Hello: the presidency is not an eternal game of Battlebots against EEVil. it's a job. a messy, difficult job. either you're qualified or you aren't. anyway, nice to hear the admission *now*, and in such backassward, pessimistic terms even now, dumbass. "Don't show weakness"--oh, give me a break. you ARE weak. a weak, frightened, little boy. if you'd stop blowharding and actually LISTEN for a change, we might at least have a better shot at making the world safer and better, which was the goal all along for those of us who DON'T live in the Bizarro Paranoid World. now: fuck off back to the ranch and stay there.

9.  Their criminal War On Terror has been marketed as winnable from day 1
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 10:28 AM by awake
Why else would we let them drag us into these misadventures? If it's always been about containment, then we were already doing an infinitely better job before these fuck-sticks stirred the pot.

12. '1984' - Eastasia, Eurasia
America = Oceana, perpetually at war... And we even have a case of doublespeak - 'we will win the war on terror' and 'the war is not winnable'. More like a contradiction, but both will be held to be equally true by the sheeple.

13. Rove knows how to make him sound strong
The "people" who buy this twisted reasoning will not do the necessary thinking to realize the enormous implications behind such a statement. A woman in our newspaper today said she likes the way Bush talks because he makes good sense. GAG!!!

How'd it go? "gonna smoke 'em out", "Our resolve is STRONG", and your poodle says "We will not falter, we will not FAIL"...

And now it's
"We can't win the wahr agin' Terra...."

4 morew years of El Pequito Chimpo will do PLENTY to "embolden" our "enemies", because they've had 4 years to see that he's just a big blow-hard all-hat-and-no-cattle asshat...

I don't think you can win the war on terror, either. Why don't we give John Kerry a chance?
