NEW YORK - If the pollsters are right, first lady Laura Bush really is the president's better half. Polls show Laura Bush is more popular than her husband, which may be one reason the president gives her star treatment at his own campaign events. ..

Two-thirds of voters have a favorable view of Laura Bush and 12 percent have an unfavorable view, recent polls show.

By contrast, just over half have a favorable view of the president and more than four in 10 have an unfavorable view.

People can project whatever image they want to see on her. I've never seen a first lady like that in my lifetime. Even Betty Ford had more personality than Laura.

6. It may be the people who are projecting an image but I think it is more

media propagandists in the White House who have helped manufacture the image. She has done little for the past three years for this country. She did little after she married George but bear him children. I feel fairly confident in saying most likely, she certainly did have help in the house in the form of a housemaid and after the twins went to school, she had plenty of time to do something productive with her degree, but chose not to--no need to earn a salary by that time. What did she do all of those years? I have never heard a thing about anything she ever did during those years.

They are trying to mold her into a Jackie Kennedy but she neither has the intellect,the class, the grace or the awesome presence of Jackie Kennedy.

NEW YORK Aug. 30, 2004 — Twins Jenna and Barbara Bush have no doubt about the secret to their father's success: their mother.
And, as devoted to cleanliness and organization as she is, every once in a while first lady Laura Bush lets loose a curse word to get their attention.

"I think if he had never met my mom, there's no way he could have been as successful as he is just because she is so stable and so supportive ... and so giving," Jenna Bush said in an interview aired Monday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"I mean, she travels and works for him ... but she would never think not to, you know? They just have a pretty unconditional love," Jenna said.

The twins said their mother has told them she had never experienced stress until she brought home two babies and realized she didn't know exactly how to care for them. Their mother is "bizarrely clean," Jenna said. "And organized," Barbara added.

"Sometimes she'll just say something and Barbara and I will be like, 'Mom!' More to Barbara and I," Jenna said. "She, like, loves to every once in a while, like ... every once in a while she'll, like, say a cuss word and Barbara and I will just be totally shocked, and she does it only for shock value because she's so calm."

For years their mother ordered their father to take off his shoes in the house, to the point that their father himself now points out if a towel lies on the floor.

"He always jokes that he would take off his shoes to walk on the carpet because he didn't want to mess up, like, the vacuum lines on the carpet," Barbara said.
