Bush Seeks 'Compassionate' Label Again
NEW YORK - For months, President Bush (news - web sites) has been courting his core conservative supporters. Now, in a New York minute, he's shifting his focus to moderates, independents and Democrats not entirely sold on John Kerry (news - web sites). He wants to be known as the "compassionate conservative" again.

That slogan from his first presidential race lost its meaning to many people shortly after Bush's bitterly contested victory four years ago, when he moved like a man with a mandate to install a right-leaning Cabinet with an agenda to match. Facing an electorate no less divided than in 2000, Bush hopes to reclaim a slice of the political center with a week-long convention script designed to highlight the moderate parts of his program while reminding swing voters why they once found him so likable.

The lineup of speakers includes prominent moderates such California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Another prime-time speaker, Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) of Arizona, is a social conservative with widespread appeal among independents. Sen. Zell Miller (news, bio, voting record) of Georgia, a Democrat, was given the keynote address.

"I joined your party because of the conservative values of Republican Party. They're my values and the values of the constituents I represent," said Rep. Rodney Alexander (news, bio, voting record) of Louisiana, who switched parties this summer and addressed the convention before it was two hours old.

2. Sure if you view compassion as the willingness to
..start wars that kill thousands of innocent civilians and American soldiers.

Compassion by cutting taxes for teh richest 1% while 5.3 million have lost their healtjh insurance and 4.3 million are in poverty.

Compassion by destroying the environment.

The compassion to character assisnate political oppenets, etc.....

This is the face of Compassionate Conservatism. I hope people realize this by now.

These folk have about as much compasion as the soldiers that were flogging Jesus in that sado-masochistic, blood fest film.

22. Why not? That's how they define Christianity
According to Chimp-boy, being Christian means throwing the poor people into the street and sneering at them as they hunt for food and shelter, starting preemptive wars just because you feel like it, raping and abusing children to get their parents to talk, and telling lies about anybody who disagrees with you. Yeah, that's real Christian. Real compassionate too.

that this administration has 2 faces....and they are pulling out their compassionate face for this election.

7. There is no such thing as a compassionate conservative
Conservatives only value the free market (expcept when it pertains to recreational drugs or the sex industry) and the all mighty dollar. If that means that a lot of people who work and hard and play by the rules should fall behind along the way, then so be it.

11. According to the Census Bureau
Stupidhead has presided over an economy that has created more than 4.25 million new persons in poverty. AND he's cut the budget for social programs designed to help the newly poverty-stricken. All the while presiding over the greatest budget deficits ever seen.

Neither compassionate nor conservative. It would sure be nice of the librul media to point this out.

The Bush Network is here to show the world that George W Bush is the worst president any country or company has ever had in the history of humanity. He doesn't even know it because he doesn't use the internet, yet here we have a very long list of devoted sites against him!

Since we know there are SO MANY MORE sites, devoted to doing anything at all to git rid of the guy, let this be an unprecedented showing, please add links!

What he meant was : "gonna be very conservative with what little compassion I have"

Conservativly Compassionate.

The president of the USA needs to be liberal with compassion, not a damned selfish conservative who serves up cons on his way to destroying the American dream.

America needs regime change!

19. You know what I like?
The fact that when you say you're liberal, the compassionate part is just a given.

It'd be like calling yourself a "heartless liberal". It's an anomaly. Like "compassionate conservative".

20. Yes. Let us TALK about VALUES and discuss WHAT your actions,...
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 09:50 PM by Just Me
,...have proven to "value".

I have a flyer which, per actions, record your "values",...

,...you privileged, power-wielding, heartless, sociopath,...

History will record your (and yours) infamy,...whether you like it or not.

Ashame that such "passion" has been wasted,...to overcome an "enemy" of the past.
