Bill Clinton hammered Republicans from a Manhattan church pulpit yesterday as a group of right-wingers bearing "false witness" against the Democrats.

The attack was part of a two-pronged assault yesterday by the former President and his wife, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), marking the unofficial launch of the Democrats' counter-offensive during the GOP convention.

In a scripture-laden speech, Clinton also said controversial attack ads against Democrat John Kerry's military record were the same "smear" that was used on Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and former Democratic Georgia Sen. Max Cleland, both Vietnam vets, within the last four years.

"It's wrong to demonize and cartoonize one another, and to ignore evidence, and to make false charges and to bear false witness," Clinton told the congregation at Riverside Church.

"Sometimes I think our friends on the other side have become the people of the Nine Commandments," he added.

or at least amended it to read "thou shalt not kill little fetuses, everyone else is fair game"

and You Shall Have No Other Gods Before Me, seems to have been amended to add "but Mammon is my good bud, and you can do anything he says in my name"

'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.' really needs no further comment. Although if I felt compelled to comment - there's a whole book in repukes actions on this one.
