Midtown Businesses Suffering From Convention
http://www.wnbc.com/rcstories/3693144/detail.html

You would think 50,000 tourists in New York City is good for business, but not if your business is in the 'frozen zone' around Madison Square Garden.

We all knew it would not be business as usual around Madison Square Garden during the GOP convention, but would there be any business at all? We checked out the landscape Monday as the workweek began.

There was a sandwich shop in the Madison Square Garden area that was completely closed. The usually bustling eatery was empty. Elsewhere, a newsstand was locked up: no papers or candy sold were sold on Monday. And one Chinese buffet was closing due to lack of business. One commuter said her office, Cablevision at 11 Penn Plaza, was practically empty.

1. business picked up elsewhere
Bush likes to state that those who lost jobs became self-employed.

Self-employed people are making a killing im NYC, I bet; hookers, strippers, and everyone else normally condemned by the RNC.

6. Yes, but not for those business owners whose shops are closed
It will be interesting (though sad) to see how many businesses fail after the RNC-shutdown of the area.

2. They made lots of money from us on Sunday
All the small delis, eateries, and street vendors were making lots of money feeding and watering all the protesters on Sunday. Long lines everywhere.

3. and that's all fine with the republicans
they hate new york, as well as new yorkers.

the only reason they're in town is to milk the 9/11 teat till it's dry.

4. It's a 'dead zone'
7th Avenue is closed from 42nd to 29th streets. There are more cops than civilians.
It's fucking creepy.

7. This would be unnecessary had chimp actually done
anything to make the world "safer". However, this would be impossible
under this regime.
