HARTFORD, Conn. -- Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader has secured a place on the ballot in Connecticut, his home state.
Larry Perosino, a spokesman for Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, confirmed Tuesday that Nader had turned in a petition with enough valid signatures to earn him a place on the Nov. 2 ballot.
Backers of Nader, a native of Winsted, said they turned in 12,000 signatures. Ralph Ferrucci, Connecticut coordinator for the Nader campaign, said the campaign was notified by the secretary of the state's office that 7,618 signatures on nominating petitions were validated. A minimum of 7,500 signatures are required.
"We will have an active campaign," Ferrucci said.
