BAGHDAD, Iraq - Militants in Iraq claimed to kill 12 Nepalese contract workers in a gruesome video showing one of them beheaded and the 11 others shot in a methodical series of execution-style slayings that was discovered on an Islamic Web site Tuesday.

If confirmed, the mass killing would mark the highest number of foreign hostages slain at one time by insurgents who are trying to force foreign troops and contract workers out of the country.

Interim Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi promised retribution.

"The only solution with this unjust group is to make them face justice," a visibly angry Allawi told the Arab-language Al-Arabiya television station.

"What sins have I committed to deserve this?" said Jit Bahadur Khadka, the father of one of those reportedly killed, 19-year-old Ramesh Khadka. "Ramesh had gone to Jordan saying he would send money in three months, and return home after two years. There was no contact after that, and now we have to hear this."

Twelve Nepalese hostages have been killed by their captors in Iraq.
A Nepalese diplomat confirmed the deaths hours after images were put on a website, apparently showing one man being beheaded and 11 being shot dead.

Nepal's ambassador to Qatar, Shyamanand Suman, said it was one of the "worst days" in his country's history.

The militants said the 12 Nepalis had been killed because they "came from their country to fight the Muslims and to serve the Jews and the Christians".

I stopped about a third into it, and I have a very strong stomach. I was not an advocate of pulling our troops out at this moment, but after seeing this all I can say is WE NEED TO LEAVE THIS PLACE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Not even a new President can put this right.
