Undecided voters skeptical of Bush, but not sold on Kerry
NEW YORK (AP)

David Tayman is a registered Republican who thinks the economy is turning around, a defense industry worker who considers Democrat John Kerry to be "flippy-floppy." Sounds like a vote for President Bush.

But the 31-year-old LaPlata, Md., resident is angry about the war in Iraq, and finds the Republican incumbent to be more conservative than compassionate. "So I'm undecided," Tayman said Monday night as he turned on his television in search of the GOP convention. "What am I going to do?" ..

Undecided voters account for just four to five percent of the electorate, according to most polls, though the universe of persuadable voters ranges up to 20% when pollsters include people who say they lean toward one candidate and still might vote for another. By any measure, the number of voters still open to persuasion is smaller than normal.

AP-Ipsos polling shows that persuadable voters are more disappointed than others with Bush's job performance. Their negative views track almost every issue, from Bush's handling of the war in Iraq to his foreign policies, the economy and domestic initiatives. Nearly seven in 10 of them believe the country is headed on the wrong track. They're eager for a new direction, even in a time of war, if Kerry can convince them that it's safe to change. ..

'undecided' voters. Very few of the ones I've seen interviewed are Democrats. Mostly, they're Republican moderates who distrust Bush because they've discovered he isn't moderate like he pretended to be, like the guy in the original post.

I don't know if they can be sold on Kerry or not, but even if they simply don't vote when they would have voted for Bush, that's a plus for Kerry.

4. angry about the war, but not angry enough
about judges like pickering?
hmmmm -- i'm having doubts about the moral and ethical underpinnings of a good many people -- especially so called moderates who are undecided about bush.

5. But they would support Judges like Pickering because they would believe
that being against the war is a facet of being pro life. They are holding "all" life sacred. At least that is what some of them think. I don't happen to agree 'as I am pro choice anti war but at least they are not being hypocrites. Their position is wrong but understandable.

7. i doubt seriously if there are very many people who hold
that position -- coming from the heartland originally myself -- i've never met that so called breed you describe.
americans don't care about pig judges like pickering.
they don't care about the harm ashcroft or other freaks like that cause as long as they get a fucking tax break, i.e. a damn bribe!

6. This Pretty Much Describes
the undecideds I know. They will either vote for Bush or not vote. They wouldn't vote Demo if Jesus were running (he was a librul) because Demos just want to give away their tax money to poor people who are too lazy to work.

9. Let me get this straight - the flip-floppers accuse Kerry of flip-flopping
They can't make up their mind who to support for president, but they're not sold on Kerry because he can't make up his mind?

10. So from the sound of this voter, people should just keep dying in
Iraq because the economy is improving? This is common sense?

For crying out loud! What Do these voters want to hear? The Sermon on the Mount from Kerry? I'm sick and tired of the excuses of the undecided's.

I for one can live with a little less. But I cannot live with a guy in the White House whose policies needlessly kill and wound thousands and then declares the damn thing unwinnable.

12. Well,
If he massively wants Bush to loose, he has to vote for Kerry.
LOL.
What exactly is wrong with people that they can't understand this very simple truth?

16. Of course. But this sort of alienation much actually be very common ...
... since only about half the eligible voters ever go to the polls.

14. I've made a Decision about Undecideds
They are loosers and intelectually lazy dregs that serve only to hold down our society.

But to their credit at least they are not "Hard Right Mistake Prone Idealogues".

I say Chenney EM anyway!

15. you're starting to sound like mAnn Coulter
Though, I guess, she does make a point.

"Swing voters are more appropriately known as the 'idiot voters' because they have no set of philosophical principles. By the age of fourteen, you're either a Conservative or a Liberal if you have an IQ above a toaster."
