Someone with a southern accent was also outraged and said that although they weren't supposed to comment, they were outraged as well. They hadn't even heard about it. The operator said, "I hope you don't hold this against the president. This isn't how he feels." I said that I begged to differ, that there wasn't a single person outside of Colin Powell with any military experience in the WH, and frankly, that lack of military understanding shows on the GOP Convention floor.

If you have a GOP rep in your state, call him/her and see what the reaction is. I called mine and my parents' and both times, the aides were very rude and aggressive with me. I was informative of my background and civil in expressing my displeasure. They were argumentative! I'm curious to see if this is SOP for GOP behavior.

9. I couldn't agree with you more lubkuchen...

I've been saying this for the past 3 weeks. Aside from his record of service, which I admire greatly, I have absolutely no respect for John McCain any more. He was one of the few Republicans who "got it", and saw the big picture more than any other in his party. It would appear he's sold his soul to Bush/Rove/Wolfowitz/Cheney. It's quite heartbreaking actually.

The man went through hell for his country. But in the past few weeks he has proved himself to be a prince of political expedience, at the expense of his alleged penchant for straight talk. If he doesn't denounce this how can he be taken seriously?
