Cheney Withholds Kerry War Record Judgment

Tuesday August 31, 2004 10:31 PM

NEW YORK (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney said Tuesday it would be wrong for him to judge Sen. John Kerry's service during the war or his anti-war activities later, given that he avoided military service altogether.

Cheney was asked if Kerry should apologize for saying that troops in Vietnam committed atrocities, testimony that riled some officers who served with him.

``I didn't have to serve in Vietnam and I try to make it a point always to thank those who did for their service, regardless of what their views are or exactly where they served during that period of time or under what circumstances,'' the vice president said on the syndicated ``Sean Hannity Show.''

``I really don't think it's for me to be trying to judge his behavior then,'' he added.

Cheney was given five deferments from military service in the 1960s, explaining later that he had ``other priorities.''

2. What's with Cheney?
He's gone totally off message. First he's not attacking gay marriage, now he's not attacking Kerry.

Did he look into his black soul and find a heart?

11. Sometimes I wonder if "undisclosed location" is a hyperbaric chamber in
his bunker... Increased O2 partial pressure would mean the old ticker wouldn't have to work as hard. I think he is cynical enough to make political hay by staying VP, knowing that if (hopefully it doesn't come to that) he and * get reselected, that when Mr. Timebomb goes off in his chest, that they have McCain waiting in the wings to take over.

4. Crashcarts

Avoidance is ever more obscene that Chimps. At least Chimp wore a uniform (some) and flew a plane (some) and was in the National Guard (some)...Ole FU completely shitcanned the entire deal.

He knows better that to come off with any attacks on someone with the courage and conviction to give back the only way they knew how at the time. God Bless John Kerry for standing in the line of fire IN Vietnam and AGAINST it as well...

8. Looking more like Cheney will abdicate so he is softening his record.
Statements like not judging Kerry on his war record, and advocating state control of gay marriage seem to be softening his record for posterity.

Will Cheney abdicate on Wednesday in favor of stick-like-glue John McCain, Bush's best pal lately? McCain is scheduled to campaign with Bush Wednesday and Friday (when the jobs report comes out).
