Giuliani Charges Lack Context
By Glenn Kessler
Washington Post Staff Writer
Tuesday, August 31, 2004; 6:44 PM

Former New York mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani made a number of specific attacks based on statements allegedly made by Democratic presidential nominee John F. Kerry in his speech to the Republican National Convention Monday night. But Giuliani's description of those comments often lacked context.

For example, Giuliani said: "In October of 2003, he told an Arab American institute in Detroit that a security barrier separating Israel from the Palestinian territories was a barrier to peace. Okay. Then a few months later, he took exactly the opposite position."

The context: When Kerry made his statement about a "barrier to peace," he was referring to, as he put it, the "Israeli government's decision to build the barrier off of the Green Line -- cutting deep into Palestinian areas."

Kerry's stance was similar to the position taken by President Bush a few months earlier, in July 2003, when he said in the Rose Garden: "I think the wall is a problem, and I discussed this with Ariel Sharon. It is very difficult to develop confidence between the Palestinians and Israel with a wall snaking through the West Bank."

1. don't confuse these fools with facts
they don't want those!

and if you remind them that that was the position of their "thang" - they will deny that, too.

Their "thang" only works on historical revision and anything said yesterday does not apply to today.

4. 87 BILLION
And the other thing that pissed me off
When he took out of context and twisted Kerry's vote
on the $87 billion to Iraq

7. The fact bombing attacks they make on us is similar to getting trolled
at DU. You can see people coming back time after time to step in and plant some 1/2 truths, or 1/4 truths, or 1/10th truths, and dare you to prove otherwise.

First you have to untangle their spins, then you have to go get the entire story, and show how the truth differs from the planned sabotaged, rearranged "truth."

AS you know at DU, sometimes, and it can last for weeks at a time, you only have time to step in for a quick look and scan of the stories, and just don't have the time to dive in there and go after the facts you know are there, as it can just eat up an hour, easily, sometimes more, and often you don't have that luxury of time available.

With false stories planted by public figures, the journalists could actually nip the lies in the bud, and we'd ALL benefit. When they allow these twisted versions and imitations of truth to go unchallenged, as in the bogus charges hurled at Al Gore which stuck because he didn't roger the shallow journalists assigned to him, and play up to them, and get on their good side, trusting them to be skilled, professional adults, they murdered him by simply almost ignoring him altogether, except for the ridicule.

Their cheap vulnerability to the most asinine, crude seduction by a truly limited man like Bush derailed our entire country's government and brought unnecessary, and painful hardship to Americans and people in other countries.

They are torturing Democrats to death by letting us see, from time to time they do know what's going on, then burying the vital stories which contradict the lies, and could destroy them, as if they'd never happened.

We are the god damned MARTYRS over here, f'r crying out loud. We can't do our jobs and the jobs of the AWOL media, too.

We'd better NOT be toast this time, by God!

9. Kerry should have responded more quickly on the...
87B issue, too.

I know I shouldn't be armchair quarterbacking here, but watch how quickly the "We can't win the war on terror" issue will evaporate, because Bush acted quickly to diffuse it.

Keryy should have said what this artivle says: that Bush wanted to veto the fiscally responsible version of the bill, that it's possible to provide equipment for our soldiers without running up the deficit more than necessar, but Bush doesn't know how to manage money.

This was a missed opportunity.
