Panel Says Salt Lake Mayor Misused Funds (Nancy Workman-R)

SALT LAKE CITY - A panel investigating Salt Lake County's mayor said Wednesday that it found evidence she misused public money by hiring a bookkeeper for a nonprofit group where her daughter is the chief financial officer.

The panel said there was enough evidence against Mayor Nancy Workman to support two felony counts of misusing public money and a misdemeanor count of sidestepping hiring procedures. It stopped short of recommending prosecuting her, leaving that decision up to the prosecutor.

Workman admits using about $17,000 in Health Department funds to hire a bookkeeper for the nonprofit South Valley Boys and Girls Club, but has said she did the right thing "to help those kids." She did not immediately comment Wednesday.

Her attorney, Ron Yengich, said the county has made a practice of using taxpayer funds to help nonprofit and charitable organizations. He denied that she broke the law.

Peter Corroon is runing against her. He's Howard Dean's cousin.

If they charge her, and I think they have to after this, she is required by law to step down from her position! There have been several other scandals associated with heir reign.

She is a republican (although its a non partisan race) Salt Lake County mayor. Rocky is the Salt Lake City mayor and a godless commie pinko. (Love his politics, but personally he can be a jerk.)

For other locals or those who watch Utah politics (why? get a life!), Merrill Cook (switched to independent when it was discovered he was too nutty for the republicans any more) is also running for County mayor.

And, the gossip I"m hearing about the republican running for gov is that his own party doesn't like him much. (For all the wrong reasons, they put it so delicately "he's confused about his gender") so they are voting for the dem. The Dem running for gov is son of a very popular dem governor we had in the 70s or early 80s (?).
