IAEA: No proof of secret Iran plan

Bolton: Compelling need to take Iran's nuclear program to Security Council.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The U.N. atomic watchdog agency says weapons inspectors have not uncovered evidence to support accusations that Iran has a secret nuclear weapons program.

However, a U.S. State Department official said the Bush administration still intends to work toward referring the matter to the U.N. Security Council for possible punitive action.

A report by the International Atomic Energy Agency accepts that Iran may not have produced HEU (highly enriched uranium), a key ingredient needed to produce nuclear weapons. HEU contamination had been found at the Kalaye Electric Company and at the Natanz sites in Iran.

"It appears plausible that the HEU contamination found at those locations may not have resulted from enrichment of uranium by Iran," the report said.

1. Why am I not surprised?
An international body says "nope, there are no WMD's" and Bush says "Bullshit" and wants to charge into another country so he can have yet another hard-on involving planes.

Is anybody even remotely stunned by this?

When was the last time Bush had an original thought in his head? 1958?

John Bolton in Jerusalem:
The New Age of Disarmament Wars

By Ian Williams
February 20, 2003

From the homeland of Armageddon this week came worrying signs that we should begin worrying about the even longer and harder wars to follow. John Bolton, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Disarmament Affairs and International Security, was in Israel this week, for meetings about "preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction."

It seems appropriate for the U.S. and Israel to meet about disarmament issues. After all, Israel is universally acknowledged by everyone--excepting the U.S. government--as a considerable nuclear power, and much of the world regards its prime minister as a profound threat to international security. However, we can be sure that neither item was on Bolton's agenda.

Bolton-Sharon Style Disarmament

While in Israel, Bolton met Sharon and Netanyahu. He promised that after the U.S. has sorted Iraq "it will be necessary to deal with threats from Syria, Iran, and North Korea afterwards." For Bolton and Sharon, disarmament is what you do to other people, no more and no less.

<snip>

The venue for Bolton's disarmament talks is significant. Although Israel is agnostic on Kim Jong Il, there is no doubt that the rest of Bolton's dominoes fall exactly in line with the eschatological plans of the Likudnik fundamentalists. When they met, Sharon told him that Israel was "concerned about the security threat posed by Iran" and that it was important to deal with it even while American attention is turned toward Iraq. Since it was the Israelis and the Reagan administration that had conspired to provide weaponry for Iran in the 1980s, we know how strongly and consistently they feel about this.

I think I have the link (wonder if it's still good) from Haaertz describing that meeting...

will have to look

added on edit:

Here is the Haaertz link (no longer working - I have it dated in my computer as 2/17/03) and part of the article:

http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/263923.html

U.S. Undersecretary of State John Bolton said in meetings with Israeli officials on Monday that he has no doubt America will attack Iraq, and that it will be necessary to deal with threats from Syria, Iran and North Korea afterwards.

Bolton, who is undersecretary for arms control and international security, is in Israel for meetings about preventing the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

In a meeting with Bolton on Monday, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said that Israel is concerned about the security threat posed by Iran. It's important to deal with Iran even while American attention is turned toward Iraq, Sharon said.

Bolton also met with Foreign Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Housing and Construction Minister Natan Sharansky.

3. Don't forget, Bolton was the one who insisted Iraq had WMD
He also insists Syria has WMD, although he hasn't voiced this since the CIA bitch-slapped him and proved he was a liar.

Iran Uranium Conversion Plans Provoke U.S. Fury

<snip>
In the confidential report, obtained in full by Reuters, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Iran planned a large-scale test of a uranium conversion facility this month.

"Iran's announcements are further strong evidence of the compelling need to take Iran's nuclear program to the Security Council," U.S. Under Secretary of State John Bolton said in a statement. The Security Council can impose economic sanctions.

"The United States will continue to urge other members of the IAEA Board of Governors to join us in this effort, to deal with the Iranian threat to international peace and security."

Tehran insists the only purpose of its nuclear program is the peaceful generation of electricity.

8. From Tehran Times.com >
IAEA report positive step: Iran

...It appears plausible" that contamination by highly enriched uranium at two sites in Iran "may not have resulted from the enrichment of uranium at those locations," the IAEA said in the confidential report obtained by AFP.

According to an upcoming report by the IAEA cited on Wednesday in The Washington Post United Nations inspectors have found no clear evidence of a nuclear arms program in Iran.

The UN agency investigated some U.S. intelligence tips about Iran's alleged nuclear weapons, but turned up nothing conclusive, the Post said, citing unidentified diplomats who have been briefed on the report.

11. Iran is building nuclear weapons
Anyone who doesn't think so needs their brain examined. Anyone who has paid attention to the news in the last couple of days will have noticed that John kerry also knows this to be true.

He will have to deal with the situation one way or another.

16. "Everybody wants to go to Baghdad; real men want to go to Tehran."
(That's an authentic PNAC penis mantra, by the way...)

They want Iran and they want Syria, and they want them BAD. I still think that history will prove that we were about to move into Syria after overrunning Baghdad, but just couldn't contain the situation.

This is about world domination, and this is about Israel. The Neo-cons are capable of just about anything; think what'll happen if Kerry wins: there'll be ten weeks of evil lame-duck possibilities. The only bright side to all this is that they probably just can't pull off something like Syria right then, even with the IDF champing at the bit.
