Florida told to expect storm worse than Andrew
MIAMI - As Hurricane Frances pounded the Bahamas on Thursday, 750,000 Floridians prepared to evacuate their homes by the afternoon and forecasters warned the Category 4 storm could be worse than Hurricane Charley last month and even worse than Hurricane Andrew of 1992, the most expensive storm to ever hit the United States.

While Charley was as a Category 4 storm as well, Frances is twice as wide, Ed Rappaport of the National Hurricane Center told NBC's "Today" show Thursday. As a result, he said, expect "the same kind of devastation but perhaps over a larger area near landfall."

Andrew, for its part, was more intense at its core but also "a smaller storm ... so we expect a wider area of damage than we saw with Andrew," Rappaport said.

Packing 145 mph winds that extend out 80 miles and on a course that has emergency officials in several southeastern states jittery, Frances was expected to strengthen as it headed for landfall, possibly by late Friday or early Saturday.

1. I feel for those in Florida - and DU'ers there please stay safe
But I do have to wonder if God is on the Bushes side, then why is Florida going to be pounded again? And from what I see from the path looks like Georgia could get it as well. H'mmmm.

Does Disney World still allow that Gay Day? Is that why God is still mad at Florida?

2. why would a hurricane be an advantage to the bushes?
It certainly has drowned out (no pun intended) the republican convention here and NOBODY will hear W's speech tonight--everyone is evacuating. I don't think it will have any effect at all.

Miami/Fort Lauderdale has a very large Gay Population, we won't even discuss key west Gay population. So no that can't be the reason.

4. Found this interesting
from National Hurricane Center:

THE MOST INTERESTING ASPECT THIS MORNING IS THAT THE NATIONAL
WEATHER SERVICE GLOBAL FORECAST SYSTEM...GFS...AND GFDL MODELS HAVE
SHIFTED THEIR TRACKS A LITTLE TO THE WEST AND ARE NOW IN BETTER
AGREEMENT WITH THE OTHER DYNAMICAL MODELS. NOW THAT THE RELIABLE
GFS AND GFDL ARE IN AGREEMENT WITH THE OTHER MODELS...THE
CONFIDENCE IN THE OFFICIAL FORECAST IS HIGHER. FRANCES IS MOVING
TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST OR 295 DEGREES AT 11 KNOTS AROUND THE
PERIPHERY OF THE SUBTROPICAL RIDGE. ALL MODELS ARE HOLDING THE
RIDGE STRONG AND LONG ENOUGH TO KEEP THE HURRICANE ON A
WEST-NORTHWEST TO NORTHWEST TRACK WITH A DECREASE IN FORWARD SPEED.
THIS TRACK WOULD BRING THE CORE OF THE HURRICANE NEAR THE EAST
COAST OF FLORIDA IN ABOUT 48 HOURS OR SO. BECAUSE FRANCES HAS A
LARGE WIND FIELD AND THE TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO
REACH THE COAST MUCH EARLIER THAN THE EYE...A HURRICANE WARNING HAS
BEEN ISSUED FOR THE PORTIONS OF THE FLORIDA EAST COAST TO ALLOW
SUFFICIENT TIME FOR PREPARATIONS

The storm is behaving more like the models have been predicting.

7. An interesting read especially this post near the end
Hurricane Charley and Scalar Electromagnetics

First, a brief background regarding Scalar Electromagnetics and how they effect weather and the human mind.

The key discovery made by Tesla in the late 1800’s was that the earth itself reverberated with a pulsing electrical current in the low ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) range. Tesla had also discovered the exact frequency at which the earth normally pulsates. These natural waves are created as a result of electrical activity in the atmosphere. Collectively, these waves are called The Schumann Resonance. These are quasi-standing ELF waves that naturally exist in the earth's electromagnetic cavity, the space between the ground and the Ionosphere.

By causing many towers to pulse with the exact ELF frequency of the normal earth pulsation, scientists have learned how to not only create, but also how to maneuver and direct storms. Tesla’s discovery can duplicate almost every single phenomena of nature, from cyclones to tornados; and now, with Solar Power Satellites used in conjunction with land based towers, weather Control is just that simple.

GWEN (Ground Wave Emergency Network) transmitter towers bathe the entire U.S. in an artificial magnetic field which can rise from the ground to 500 ft, but also goes down into the ground as deep as a normal basement. Everyone can be affected and mind-controlled. This entire artificial ground wave spreads out over North America like a spider’s web.

The natural earth ELF waves are identical to the frequency spectrum of our human brainwaves, and it has been proven that the use of an ELF bombardment - at the same frequency as the human brain - can change a person's thoughts or emotions. In the early 1960’s, Dr Andrija Puharich discovered various mental effects of ELF, specifically that 7.83 Hz (the earth's pulse rate) made a person feel good, producing an altered-state; that 10.80 Hz caused riotous behavior; and that 6.6 Hz caused depression. It has since been discovered that 10 Hz puts people into a hypnotic state.

Can not verify. Said it on the news. I believe it, though.

11. I can verify that there are no Hotels rooms left in Lee County
Most Hotels close to where I live in North Fort Myers are full with relief workers from out of State & Insurance Adjusters (from Hurricane Charley).

12. Hotels will be booked all the way to Tennessee
Is there any effort to get people living in Georgia and Alabama to take in storm refugees?

I have friends who fled to Disney World two days ago. Their reasoning was that it was inland, it was well built and had all the utilities underground, and it had large stocks of food. A little odd but it makes sense.

14. Disney has some (very expensive) rooms left in their Concierge Hotels
but they go for $400-3000 a night.
Of course, they are large, very well appointed and there is a service lounge with free booze to help you weather out the storm.

13. If this storm is worse than Andrew in size
and if it stays powerful (which appears to be the case) and if it hits the more developed portions of Florida, this one will be a record breaker.

I hope anyone near the water is able to get inland asap and that anyone in a dwelling that is not extremely strong can get to a good shelter before it hits.

I hope they are doing mandatory evacuation of mobile home parks, because those folks will be in serious danger.

Batten down the hatches Florida and good luck.
