Fake $200 featuring Bush is back
Edited on Thu Sep-02-04 10:52 AM by seemslikeadream

Pennsylvania woman faces charges after cashier accepted bill with the president's picture on it.
September 2, 2004: 11:16 AM EDT

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - It's no secret that people are passionate about the 2004 presidential election, but one Pennsylvania woman may have pushed her political feelings for George Bush a little too far.

Pennsylvania State Police say they plan to file criminal charges against Deborah Trautwine, 51, after she passed a fake $200 bill with the president's picture on it, according to a report in the Tribune-Review of Westmoreland County, Pa.

Although there is no $200 bill in circulation, never mind one with George Bush's picture on it, the cashier at the Fashion Bug in Hempfield Township, Pa., accepted the bill for some clothes and handed the woman about $100 in change, the paper reported.

The fake bill also has other distinguishing features, such as being "signed" by former President Ronald Reagan, whose title on the bill is "Political Mentor." Bush's father's name also appears on the bill as "Campaign Advisor and Mentor."

In addition, the serial number DUBYA4U2001 adorns the front of the fake bill.

10. I think most likely the clerk was in on the deal
Think about it for a while. No one could be that dumb. Get a friend to show up with the bill, accept it as cash for some purchase, and split the profits later.

Get reprimanded the next day from the boss, but claim idiocy and pocket your half of the proceeds.

Simple.

9. They DEFINITELY should have arrested the clerk, too...

On edit: Technically, Ezee, the bill isn't counterfeit because American $200 bills don't exist. The criminal charges will be along the lines of theft or fraud or larceny.

6. Do ya one better ....
Earlier this summer someone tried to pass a $1M dollar bill for $50 worth of merchandise at a WalMart and the cashier was freaking about making $950,000 change, when a manager or someone hipped her to the fact that THERE IS NO SUCH THING.

:freak: Further proof that Americans are just that dumb.

7. reminds me of Money Order scam 20 yrs ago
When I was in college, a friend from HS worked at a
convenience store called WaWa (in eastern PA).

Once, he came in one morning with his boss to open the store and
they discovered all the money orders had been 'sold'. BUT, there was
hardly any money in the safe used exclusively for mo's.

Seems the night shift person was selling money orders for $0.35,
just like on the sign in the window! So if you came in that night for
a money order for $500, it cost you $0.35! Not $500.35.

The funny ending is they recovered most of the money. The doofus
who discovered the cashier's idiocy came back about 10 times that
night for ever increasing mo's. He also made them out to friends
who then tried to cash them. I guess they tracked their serial numbers
or something.

I think the cashier was just an idiot who wasn't familiar with how mo's
work.

8. It amazes me how really dumb dome people can be!
There will always be clever crooks who can get away with a lot. The examples here aren't about cleverness at all. They're about gullibility, and pure stupidity! How does anyone manage to even get a GED and be this dumb?

13. A similar incident

Was reported a few years back on the smoking gun. One guy succesfully passed an exact same bill, one guy tried to pass it but was arrested.
