Bush renews call for privatization of Social Security
By Christine Dugas, USA TODAY

President Bush revived a pledge Thursday to give workers more control over retirement savings and put Social Security on sound financial footing.

The president provided few details in his speech at the Republican convention about his plan to overhaul Social Security. The financial safety net this year will provide about $492 billion in benefits to 47 million Americans. Bush is a strong proponent of privatization of the program, which would allow workers to invest some of their own Social Security contributions. ..

But a shift to private accounts could prove tough to accomplish. It would result in an immediate shortfall, because payroll tax revenues that currently pay for retiree benefits would instead go into private accounts earmarked for workers. By some estimates, privatization could add up to $2 trillion to the deficit over 10 years ..

1. all i can figure is that bush is so completely wrapped up in his "end of
the world" view that he doesn't care what the hell he does to the country, and he's suckered the vast majority of his GHP goofballs into believing it too. they must have secret meetings where they compare notes on signs of the apocalypse.

3. you may be right about Bush
thing is you know Wall St. is salivating for that 2 trillion.
Bush you can 'Forget about it!' I've learned enough from Paul Krugman and DU'ers to not fall the Con of privatizing SS.
I look forward to more informative articles from Krugman on the Con of privatizing SS.

It's our job as citizens to inform people that Bush's plan is crap!!

So Du'ers I will be checking in at the economic forum for more information to fight this fight.
