Call to Cyclists Arrested Around the Week of the RNC (Legal and bike offer
Infoshop Newswire

During the RNC/BNC, the NYPD has targeted cyclists and made nearly 400 bicycle related arrests. They’ve confiscated even more bicycles, in some cases cutting bike locks and taking bicycles that were purportedly ridden by "protestors". On Sunday, August 29th, without prior notification and without providing justification, the NYPD instituted a "bike-frozen zone" between 34th St. and 59th St., west of 6th Avenue. Our confiscated bikes are being held in a facility in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and many of them are not scheduled to be released until our court dates, in some cases months from now.

Because of the mass, defense legal teams are swamped with the total number of arrests, they’ve requested that Time’s Up! help them distinguish those arrested on bikes from those arrested without bikes. At this point we’re collecting names, contact details, and those arrest details that you’re comfortable giving. We’re consulting with lawyers and, if there is a reasonable case, we’ll potentially file a civil suit in defense of cyclists. For the next few weeks, we’ll be hosting informal meetings with legal advisers and lawyers at the 49E. Houston Street bike space, beginning this Thursday, September 2nd at 6:30 p.m. Meetings thereafter will be every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. If you were arrested while riding a bike, please contact us and please come to the meetings. ..

1. i can understand them wanting to get rid of bikes in the area...
with the metal tubes used in their construction, you could probably make some pretty nasty IED's...

2. I hope you are kidding. It would take a welder or very good saw.
This is in a city with all sorts of retail shops, garages, etc. Not to mention gangsters, theives, and gun dealers.

4. I think it is because the cyclists could get away to quickly.
But did they ever try?
