The former head of Mexico's state oil company was extradited to Mexico on Thursday to face charges of embezzlement and abuse of power.
Rogelio Montemayor, former governor of Coahuila, arrived in Mexico City in the custody of U.S. marshals at 2:30 p.m. and was turned over to Mexican authorities, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office in Houston said.

Montemayor is accused of funneling about $209 million to candidates of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, which had controlled Mexico's presidency for about 70 years before the election in 2000 of President Vicente Fox.
Montemayor has denied the charges, which he called politically motivated. He said he fled to the United States because the judicial process in Mexico was politically tainted.
