Audience boos as Bush offers best wishes for Clinton's recovery
WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP)

President Bush on Friday wished Bill Clinton ``best wishes for a swift and speedy recovery.''

``He's is in our thoughts and prayers,'' Bush said at a campaign rally.

Bush's audience of thousands in West Allis, Wis., booed. Bush did nothing to stop them.

Bush offered his wishes while campaigning one day after accepting the presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention in New York. Clinton was hospitalized in New York after complaining of mild chest pain and shortness of breath. ..

121. Speaking of Compassion- Here is a PLAN to raise MILLIONS
If every single Dem in the entire nation (and some caring compassionate Reps, too) were NOT send a card to President Clinton but were instead to send $4.00 to the DNC for Kerry's campaign (which is roughly what a nice card and postage stamp would cost) then that would more than make up for the monies that will be lost due to the fact that Pres. Clinton can not now be campaigning...

I daresay that Pres. Clinton would be much more cheerful hearing that many many millions of dollars have come suddenly flooding into the DNC (than to have bags of cards that he may never even get to read).

If you like this idea, please circulate to everyone on your address list. I think that Pres. Clinton was a great President, and would be happy for millions of dollars in donations to help defeat W.

101. Until such time as one of their own comes out and...
openly criticizes those actions, I will presume that all of them agree with it. The republicans and their supporters have demonstrated no inkling of compassion or respect for dissent and they are complacent that they are going to win this election by hook or crook (mostly by lying and cheating). They get no respect from me. As far as I am concerned, they want it this way, and this way it shall be. I am proud to say that I remember the voices on this board that chastised many of us (myself included) for heaping insults on Ronald Reagan's name after he died. I seriously doubt that the RWers would have any sense of decency if something like that happened to one of ours (I refer you to the Wellstone memorial for an example).

109. wait now....
My point was, grouping based on the actions of few.

Case in point (actually a really good example), with the gay community.

No one can deny there is a less than desirable population within the gay community (albeit the minority) who engage in public restroom sex, bug chasing (finding thrill out of possibly contracting HIV) etc. and then of course NAMBLA

Looking at that relatively small group, and labeling the entire gay community as being sexual deviants would be ludicrous.

That is all I am saying. Rest assured, I have felt pretty embarrassed by the actions and comments some of my constituents have displayed in public...and I certainly do not want their thoughtless actions put upon me.

The words "Child molesters" was not stated in my original post.

Now, are you willing to accept the labels some of the republicans are putting on the Democrats? I most certainly am not!! I would rather fight the label and prove them wrong.

No, the WORDS "child molesters" was not stated in your original post.
But you did refer to NAMBLA in this following quote:
"No one can deny there is a less than desirable population within the gay community (albeit the minority) who engage in public restroom sex, bug chasing (finding thrill out of possibly contracting HIV) etc. and then of course NAMBLA"

I just find it very intersting that you'd mention NAMBLA in the same sentence as gays.

On edit: screwed up the bold tag.

174. Hey
What is your problem??

I am doing the polar opposite of gay baiting, read the damn post.

I said it is not fair to group people by the actions of a few! I used the gay community as an example of what happens when you do.

My sister is gay for god's sake. Do you have a problem with gay people?

For you information the gay community dislikes the fact that NAMBLA has any association with them, but that does not change the fact they are a homosexual organization.

What is with the attack mode in this forum?

The gay community has totally rejected them - as you note.

You have nine posts here and five of them involve a fight you got into as soon as you joined us. It raises a question in my mind about your priorities.

My suggestion is that you back off, go to another thread, and post on something completely different.

Just because they have homosexual relations with young boys doesn't mean that they are a Homosexual organization. Their predaters who find it easy to have sex with boys. Not every guy who rapes another in prison is gay...in fact outside of prison they would consider themselves to be heterosexual. So know what your taling about before you start making false acusations against the homosexual community because of your right-wing christian hate!

192. Look, the problem is that,
as with the SBV (Shit for Brains Vets), most republicans remained silent and many republicans defended the lies and smears. With the PH band-aids most republicans remained silent, some defended the "joke". When Bush is on the stage and his supporters show happiness at the idea of a former 2-term president undergoing heart surgery, bush should have shown "leadership" and set these brain-stem monsters straight. But he didn't. Silence is a form of support, that's why we, here, are always screaming about the way our government is behaving, at home and around the world - we won't stay silent. If a member of our party or group does something or says something that anyone of us disagrees with, we should and will speak up. For the republicans as a group, or as individuals, to remain silent in the face of such behavior is, itself, an act of barbaric venality or, at least, beastial indifference. And that, I think, is the point...

Remember that chimp flies and buses supporters into his rallies. He has a core group of strong supporters who travel with him, sort of like chimp-heads. They make up the bulk of the audience at each of his so-called campaign stops.

He's not talking to local people at these stops. He's the star of a traveling photo-op.

54. Saw it on TV...didn't hear any boos
I just heard clapping...maybe the authors heard a few people in the crowd boo but I would imagine it was very few if the tv mikes didn't pick it up. The corrected story containing no boos makes me think that the authors embellished a little...stating "Bush did nothing to stop them" would imply that the boos were loud enough for Bush to hear -- if that was the case, I would have heard it too on TV. If the writer's did embellish, I hope this doesn't get a lot of play as you will hear "liberal media" repeated over and over again by the freeps. Hopefully a few more versions of the tv feed will come out with good audio so we can find out.

186. Could this story be a plant? I heard NO boos..
I listened to the audio clip, it has about 4 seconds of applause and cheers for Clinton, no boos that I could discern at all. The AP story has no byline, no author, nothing. A right wing friend of mine pointed out that the story could be a fake, and if it turns out to be a fake, then what? CBS ran this on their website, and as best as I can tell, there is no story. President Bush respectfully called President Clinton "President Clinton", as he should do, and the audience applauded and cheered, then it cut out.

If this thing is a planted story, it will just give the right wing ammo, pointing out that we are willing to go to any length to show how uncompassionate they really are. Ugh. Perhaps I've just missed something, I'm too tired from work right now.

Think of the aftermath. All the glowing TV retrospectives on the Clinton years, reminding America how good we had it under the Democrats. Foreign leaders lavishly praising the President they loved best. With all that praise for the Big Dawg, Bush would look terrible in comparison, and there'd be no room on the news for their rabid attacks on Kerry. It'd be Bill and more Bill for weeks to come.

So the Repugs probably really are praying that Bill does fine.

Trying to keep my head up lately, I'm hopeful, all is not lost, that herd of slime that just put on the show in NY is gone and everyone is back in their respective states and business can get on as usual and I'm really hoping John Kerry finally rises to the occassion, but sometimes this gets all very frustrating and I choose to tune out the madness so as to give myself some peace, a respite from politics.

When shit like this happens though, it is impossible to ignore the madness, the despicable side of the aisle which calls itself "Republicans" - it's hard to not be affected. It's hard to face the fact that that faction can very well still own the White House for the next 4 years.

I can't begin to express my horror, my anger, my dismay, the utter futility.

122. well next time maybe you'll think to include a link that supports
your story on the first post...i haven't listened yet...but i want to point out a couple of things that are REALLY obvious to me.

1) you expect to be believed w/o sourcing. i don't know you. why should i believe you?

2) "Take it however you want, but I suppose we will believe whatever we want." here it appears you are attempting to put me down w/o giving me a chance to listen "with an open mind", making an assumption that i don't have an "open mind." i see this as 'projecting.' just mho, though, I'll keep an "open mind"

and no. changing a story without pointing it out as a correction, or as a retraction are not the same thing. it's covering up, either the truth, or an incidence of bad reporting.

thanks for the link. i appreciate it. lying and inaccuracy serve no good end.

138. well until CCIE2BE posted a link i wasn't privy to what you 2 heard
so like if you have a link to a story you want to refute, why not just offer it up on the first time you post? you are no one anyone around here knows, and you should be able to back up your claims as proof.

as for believing a story that is from the AP or purports to be from the AP, its a little more believable, however, apparently not infallible.

thanks for the heads up.

102. The same type of people cheered when JFK was murdered.
"I was listening to the TV broadcast in the school lunchroom in New Orleans, Louisiana. My family had moved there from Seattle. When the announcement that President Kennedy had died was made all the southern kids got up cheered and celebrated. The people in the south hated Kennedy for trying to bring equal rights to blacks. I will never forget their hate for him all of my life." -- GW, Carnation, WA. USA

Why are you ignoring the fact that the tape has no one booing and that the AP retracted the story??? Also why are you ignoring the hate for reagan that was displayed by many "democrats". Both "sides" have morons on them, lets be fair.

116. What "facts"?
Here are the facts from my post: President Kennedy was murdered. Children of the hate-mongers cheered. Those are facts, as reported by people who were there. One of those I quoted above. Several others, some of whom post on DU, have also described similar events from that day. My "side" says that was wrong. I don't give a flying fuck for fairness.

BTW... Seeing how you must have confused my post with someone else's, let me ask you: Were you at the speech? Did you see it on TV? How do you know what the facts are?

117. No need to get hostile...
No need to get hostile my friend. Yes I did see the speech, not only did I see the speech but I have heard the speech too. http://homepage.mac.com/mkoldys/bush.mp3 Here is a link to the audio. I am simply saying to keep an open mind and don't rush to conclusions... I am not sure if people cheered when JFK was killed I didn't deny that fact either. I simply said that there are ignorant people out there and those ignorant people are both democrats and repugs. For example, look at what was said here and other pro democrat forums when Reagan died, or what would be said if either Bush was put in surgery...

I was not attacking anyone or trying to cause problems, I was simply stating my views on it. Is there something wrong with that? Am I being unreasonable somehow?

137. Feel free to express your opinion. No hostility intended, my friend.
First, thanks for the link. I saw you posted it farther up on the thread and I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Second, I don't want to read shit from the other side here about "fairness." That's the first thing the pukes said about the DEM convention in Boston. "Oh, the Democrats have to be positive and fair." Nice. So, the puke pundits and Corporate McPravada make it so it's not fair to attack the unelected moron. It's only fair when Smirk and Sneer attack Kerry. That's why I have no truck for fairness.

I've posted here for three years. Tell me, please: When did DUers attack Reagan when he died? Many actually expressed sympathy for his suffering from Alzheimer's Disease and expressed condolences to his family. That's how most Democrats are -- kind-hearted people. With the exception of the trolls and plants, that's how most DUers were, as well.

As far as your opinion: Great! Feel free to express it any time, even if it goes against the grain or what I post. That's also how Democrats are -- they tolerate many perspectives, as long as they are not fascistic, totalitarian, communistic or otherwise criminal.

BTW: A heaty welcome to DU! Where ya been, CCIE2BE?

Instead of making general comments and how stupid you think they are for making such comments, you should instead question their comments and ask for explanation of their feelings. I know it sounds like BS but I find that works in most situations, and not only do I get my point across but I also get to learn if they have any valid points.

I'm not going to that right-wing hate fest over there! I'm depressed enough that FoxNews now controls the media! President Chimpy was smirking shortly after he talked about President Clitor and you could tell that he was happy.

The sooner Clinton is gone the sooner the poor masses will forget about the 30000000 jobs lost under Shrub Co. 30 million jobs!!!! Even Kerry's 10,000,000 jobs created will leave us 2 million jobs short.

I'm so depressed right now. First the vitriol of the SSwiftWaffen for hate against John Kerry. A man who told the truth about the massacre in Vietnam. And now, the greatest President in my lifetime is in the hospital with his heart in danger. And these jackals are smirking his potential demise.

The media is showing its true colors now that they fear that the chimp could win again...

We're doomed...I just thought we could make it. I'm moving to sweeden. My ex girlfriend said I could stay with her and her husband if things get bad enough here....and dammit, it likes like time to get my passport updated as it's now 10 years old.

I haven't been here in a while. But dammit. After seeing this, I wish I had just ridding off into the sunset without looking. Folks like these Freepers and their ilk will run the country for the next 4 years people!!!

170. Bush is such a phony freak...
Not only did he convey best wishes for President Clinton and a speedy recovery, within the very next breath he was reinforcing his cult-like followers "again" regarding the terrorist issue. The guy is a big damned stinking phony baloney folks. And why should he call the audience on booing his comments towards Clinton's triple bypass surgery? Sorta sounds like he is maintaining his status quo, "I didn't do nuffin wrong" theory, "I just let everybody else do muh dirty werk fer me." ---ginger

175. What galls me is knowing most Republicans think it's an act of god
You begin to realize at some point that there is just no communicating with these people. They're lost in their fear of TERROR and holy war against EVIL. Republibans.

183. That's true but how do they explain the hurricanes in Florida?
When natural disasters happen in California Pat Robertson says it is the hand of God taking vengeance on sinners.

I'm not making light of the hurricanes and the terrible suffering, injuries, and deaths of those in their path. I'm agreeing with you that it is wrong for the right-wingers to claim the "hand of God" as a cause for anything. Trouble comes to everyone sooner or later.

As Jesus said, "Let those without sin cast the first stone."

The hypocrisy of these so-called "religious leaders" - including shrub - really makes me ill.

189. I despair
As an expatriate Brit living here in the USA I have tried to remain neutral and judge the government objectively and with respect. Sadly, the events of the last 3 years or so have really tested my patience. I cannot vote. I have no real voice here. I pay my taxes of course. No taxation without representaion? I guess that is long gone .

I objected to the war. I objected to the British invlovement in the war. I hated the loss of life on both sides. I can't begin to see how we are safer, more secure now that countless thousands have died. Just line up, let's say, 10,000 people against a wall and shoot them. Dead People 10,000 Progress 0. That's pretty much the net of where we are today as far as I can see. We have achieved nothing positive. Nothing. Yet the world watches on, and apart from the voices in cyberspace, and the tiny portion of the general media that gives a toss it just carries on. I thought perhaps there may just be a tiny hint of sorrow, acceptance - or just plain realism this week. Instead, we get disgusting images of people with plasters with purple hearts. I was absolutely stunnned. I spoke about this with people I work with. It was dismissed, much like a conversation about the weather or the baseball standings. I was genuinely moved seeing those people on the sreets in NYC. Thank goodness for them. And all the people here.

And today we see this.

I can't vote. I wish I could. Get these evil bastards out.

193. Welcome to DU!
I'm going to vote for Kerry for the both of us... for all of us.

Go watch some Blackadder re-runs. That'll cheer you up, if you like hardcore satire like me. Our generation is not the only one to suffer fools and tryants... or two giant stalking things. :toast:

197. I was an expatriate American in France
Hey, I speak French, have married a French women, and have French family. My whole American family is Republican. Imagine my situation (freedom fries now?)

The irony is that I started life, and lived a great deal of my life as a Republican. But there is nothing similar with what I was now among these people. They have become corrupted. I voted Republican occasionally and actually think there are some reasonable ideas in some Republican circles. I have not abandoned this party (probably forever) because of their ideas but because of their behavior.

I am not ready to call these people fascists, but I have begun to wonder with this developing blindness and seeming inability for critical self analysis, would they be able to see it coming upon them should it get much closer. I no longer believe so.

Incidently, the real reason the French were against this war is quite simple. They believed, with their own history of meddling and failure intervening in the Middle East that what would happen is exactly what has happened. What I can't understand is why the British, with such a similar history and we would hope several humble pie lessons under their belts would follow Bush into this mess.

If that isn't there, no one can prove a thing one way or another.

204. I SAW THE VIDEO - THERE WERE NO BOOS
I was surprized there wasn't but this dog won't hunt. The audience was totally respectful. There are a lot of real issues out there but this one is totally fake. I saw the video - and when I saw these threads I was totally surprized bcause it DIDN'T HAPPEN.

211. Real True Christians
one and all!!!!! This is what is rapidly convincing me to abandon the church. The Bible says that "it is easy to love your brother....I say love your enemies". They don't even love fellow Americans, let alone their enemies. Not all those who say, "Lord, Lord" are of Christ.
