Bush, Republicans Outpoll Kerry, Democrats on TV
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Although the election is not until November, President Bush and his Republican party have bested John Kerry and the Democrats as far as U.S. television ratings are concerned, research showed on Friday

Nearly 28 million Americans -- more than a quarter of them watching cable's Fox News Channel alone -- tuned in to see Bush accept his nomination for a second term at the climax of the Republican National Convention on Thursday, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Bush's national TV audience topped Kerry's speech at the Democratic convention in July by just over 3 million viewers, among those watching Big Three commercial networks ABC, CBS and NBC and the three leading cable news outlets -- Fox, CNN and MSNBC.
...
Meanwhile, Fox News continued its unprecedented ratings dominance over this year's Republican convention, edging out not only its cable rivals but each of the major broadcast networks by drawing 7.3 million viewers to its telecast of Bush's address....MORE...

1. I'll bet the increase was mostly Republicans watching on Fox.

14. Dems watched both conventions. We like to make informed decisions.
Repubs only watch their guy. They don't want to be confused by the facts.

2. I bet at -least- a million of that is because
Dem viewers are, smartly, watching C-SPAN and PBS, which aren't included.

7. Yep, more people that want to be told what to think watched
the pub convention on Fox then watched the Democratic Convention. Shocking news.

People that didn't want to be told (Democrats, mainly) watched on channels that weren't included in the poll. Again, shocking news.

4. that is because it was not shown on any liberal stations so
everyone was tuned to either C-span to avoid the talking republican heads or watching on public television or watching on the computer....

5. Fox news is watched by those who have nothing better to do
than reach in the sewer pit and mangle the next smelly lie. It is a propaganistic TV channel that is the equivalent of the Opus Dei cable channel.

6. Did they both receive equal broadcast time?
I didn't watch the RNC so I don't know, but I know the DNC was limited to just a few hours...AND it wasn't replayed over and over with a positive spin by the talking heads.

11. Not on Fox
Check the graph on http://mediamatters.org

By my count, the RNC got 4 hours, 27 minutes, the DNC got 3 hours, 40 minutes on Fox. So Fox gave 21% more coverage to the RNC than it did to the DNC.

8. this is why you can't worry about polls...it depends on the questions
asked

they needed to ask about
c-span
public television
computer

we all watched on those stations because of the republican talking heads that did not shut up with trouncing anything any of the speakers said

10. Easily explained.
Fox News covered more of the convention(s), and most democrats cannot stomach Fox News. If Fox News is the reason for high ratings, it's because Democrats refused to watch it.. AND CSPAN does not get counted in ratings, does it??? That's where most of us were!

15. It's because Democrats were working at their second job, or night classes.
We dont have time for that shit.

I had to watch a good bit of the DEM convention on CSPAN re-runs, plus transcripts...

16. I just heard that the latest Time "poll" of Bush at 52% and Kerry at 41%
was based on "polling" of the "investor class". It was just mentioned on cable.

How's that for "accuracy"? This minor 'detail' was not mentioned on the network news!

Who did they include? More important, who did they NOT include? Go figure!

All of the networks and cable shows SUCK big time.

:grr:
