Paper: Condi Rice Will Exit Second Term
Edited on Fri Sep-03-04 08:39 PM by Nambe
NewSmax - rw rag

USA Today report

If George Bush wins a second term, several of his leading Cabinet members and top aides are planning to leave the administration.

Among the most likely to exit are Colin Powell and Condi Rice, USA Today reported Friday. ..

"Key Bush advisers such as national security adviser Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Attorney General John Ashcroft will be among those who exit," USA Today reported.

Condi Rice may have the most significant political ambitions of the group. ..

12. According to this article,
that disgrace is looking at a California senate run. Feinstein is up in 2006. It might be an interesting race, if Condi ran as an Arnold-style Republican, and Arnold was out there busting his butt for her. My money would still be on Feinstein, assuming she runs, but it would be close. She picked up 56% of the vote against a fairly popular challenger in 2000, and she hasn't done anything politically dumb since then, but Condi could eat in to her base with women and minorities. This would be a race to watch.

13. I would be surprised if African Americans

would support Rice in large numbers.

They see her as an extension of GW.

21. It wouldn't take large numbers, though.
Remember, every vote that leaves Feinstein counts twice in effect, once out of the Feinstein column, and once in the Rice column. It's a zero sum game. 56% is a solid, but not dominating, margin of victory. If Condi can siphon off 20% of the black vote, that hurts Feinstein bad, because you know Rice will do well with name recognition, so she's going to do OK with undecideds. So to make this a horse race, Rice has to start with the 45% or so who voted against Feinstein in 2000, and then make decent inroads into the black vote. Instant horse race. She's pro-choice and a woman, so she neutralizes one of Feinstein's advantages, plus she's a "tough" former NSA, which should improve her standing with men vis a vis Feinstein. And then the fucktarded Greens smell blood and see the spotlight and an opportunity to throw yet another temper tantrum, and push Camejo, or maybe the ridiculous Medea Benjamin, to steal 2-3% or so. And it's Senator Rice to you.

The more I look at this, the more worried I am, in fact. At first I thought the idea of Rice beating Feinstein was ludicrous, but when I looked closer it makes sense. I still think the Dems would pull it out with a hard push, but it wouldn't be easy.

31. Condi wouldn't get elected
She's single (no "family values" to show off for the cameras) and she's pro-choice and pro-affirmitive action, so she won't play ball with other Repubs on the social issues.

39. I think she would pick up Republican
votes just by being "not-Dianne." That, plus her long association with Bush, whom the fundies adore, will get her her base, even though she is fairly moderate herself.

She should have been fired in the aftermath of September 11th. What good is a National Security Advisor who can't connect the dots?

But they left her in the audience with Mary Cheney and her partner. Hmmm - wonder why THAT is?

even pretend to be an inclusive party. All of the replacements would be white male PNACers.

6. Crap, these clowns were bad enough, who the hell will they replace them
with? You don't think they've found a way to bring back the dead, do you? Because I have some really unpleasant thoughts running through my head right now. I mean, how can they top the incompetent, greedy, evil thugs they have now? You'd have to recruit in the deepest bowels of hell to replace these clowns.

27. Actually I could see Colin having a
few pangs of conscience and wanting to at least try to salvage his reputation, but the rest of the crooks? Ashcroft is a nutjob who thinks he's been ordained by God to cover the breasts on statues of naked women. Ridge is starring as the unglued Pillsbury doughboy in the long-running TerrorBusters series - a job he's not likely to quit. Rummy is the decrepit, cantankerous uncle everyone dreads seeing at the holidays because he's such a self-important old fart. He and Condi are a couple of useless, worthless hangers-on. If the chimp steals it, they'll be back.

7. This sounds suspicious to me. Those are precisely the people...
...who party moderates would want to see leave the administration. Is this just more of that pseudo-makeover that began at their convention? They're showing the world a reasonable face but, behind the scenes, they're reassuring their extremist base and corporate paymasters that nothing will change.

I seriously doubt it will. The propaganda clique led by Rove and Hughes are not generally good at projecting an image of positivity. Their bread and butter is made in attack politics. This isn't a new point, but the fact that USA Today (:wtf:) can break a story like this is evident of the coming Great Unraveling of the GOP.

The job of the republican propagandists is to hide this stuff, i.e. never show weakness, never be candid (without a script, at least). I'm just finding this completely bizarre. It doesn't seem they that they should be shooting themselves in the foot so soon after their big party. (Must have been the punch.)

in the middle of a war.

Seems even if Bu$h wins, we're going to have a change of government anyway.
