Record turnout for early voters in Nevada
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP)

Nevada election officials reported a surge of activity as early voting for Tuesday's primary ended on Friday. The last-minute balloting was expected to push the early-vote and absentee-vote total to a record total of well over 100,000. ..

Early voters cast ballots on new touch-screen machines in government buildings, shopping centers, supermarkets and libraries, and election officials reported few problems despite initial concerns about voter reaction to the devices.

There were minor delays as some voters waited a few minutes to review the paper record of their ballot. The paper records, pushed by Secretary of State Dean Heller as a vote verification tool following the Florida election debacle in 2000, are a first for the nation.

"We're seeing increased voting because the machines can be placed in so many locations. Before, that was nearly impossible," said Heller spokesman Steve George. ..

1. Now, this makes sense. Paper trail and making is easy
to vote - nothing wrong with that.

2. sounds legit...
I predict record voter turnout nationally in November. And THAT's what's going to prove to be Rove's downfall (in addition to him being a lying sack of doo-doo). I heard him on a soundbite the other day say that out of all the registered voters in this country, only 50% of them will turnout in the presidential election. It's their Achilles heel. I'm willing to bet that more disgruntled Americans than ever will show up at the polls to vote the shrub out!

Any takers?
