AP alert: Teresa Heinz Kerry taken to Iowa hospital for tests and released
WASHINGTON (AP) — Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, was taken to a hospital in Iowa for tests Saturday evening and released, the Kerry campaign said.

(I don't have a link. This just came across the wire.)

1. Here's some more info
Sure hope she's ok. Prayers go out.

MASON CITY — Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, became ill in Mason City Saturday and was taken to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

She was being treated in the emergency room Saturday night. No condition report was available.

Mrs. Kerry was talking about health care issues at the home of Steve Musson in Mason City when she complained about a backache and feeling light-headed.

She put her hands to her head and said, “I don’t feel well.” At that point an aide told media representatives, “cameras off.”
After about a minute, Heinz-Kerry resumed talking to Musson and five or six guests about health care issues and stayed another 45 minutes.

She and her entourage, including Secret Service officials, then went to Mason City Municipal Airport to depart from Mason City. At the airport, the Secret Service requested an ambulance to check her vital signs. When the ambulance arrived, it was decided she should go to the hospital. She walked to the ambulance unassisted.
No condition report was available Saturday night. It was not known whether her husband, campaigning in Ohio, had been notified.

— More on this story will appear Sunday in the Globe Gazette and on Globe Online as details become available.

6. are you in mason city??
Edited on Sat Sep-04-04 10:18 PM by leQ
i was just about ready to post that, and bam, someone on DU beat me to it. about news in mason city no less.

on edit: i just called over there (my client heads the ER), and she's unable to give any information for security reasons. including whether or not she's still there.

while typing this, i just called my sister at the globe, and teresa is not in mason city, and was released shortly after arriving at mercy. it was nothing serious and she thinks the ambulance guys, snells, (not the fire dept. - we're in the middle of an ambulance war) overreacted.

i did see a clip of her on kimt this evening, at musson's party and she didn't seem ill at all.

and cheney's in clear lake (10mi west) on monday at the park. haven't heard if its a public event, or if they're checking signatures on those loyalty oaths.

anyway, if you're in mason, you should IM me.

3. Hopefully nothing more than exhaustion.....
Being out on the campaign trail must be absolutely exhausting. Hope she gets some probably much-needed rest and is feeling better soon.

9. and she is....
...65 years old. I'm younger, yet I don't know if I would be able to stand on a hot stage in the sunlight for an hour as she does nearly every day and then spend more hours working the crowd.
