Argentine Minimum Wage to Rise 29% This Month
Driving a stake into the heart of the neoliberal vampires.

Sept. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Argentine union leaders and
company executives agreed to increase the
country's minimum wage by 29 percent, La Nacion
newspaper said.

Starting this month some 1.7 million workers will
have their pay raised to 450 pesos ($150) from 350
pesos, the newspaper said.

Argentina's President Nestor Kirchner this week
called for the increase, saying it will help spark
domestic consumption and power economic
growth, the newspaper said.

1. Why haven't our Republicans ever been able to grasp the finer points
of Nestor Kirchner's perspective? Sounds very reasonable, doesn't it? I can't see any way you can refute it:
Argentina's President Nestor Kirchner this week called for the increase, saying it will help spark domestic consumption and power economic growth, the newspaper said.
When Democrats here have attempted to pass similar legislation, our rightwingers act as if we're trying to murder them. They insist it will absolutely destroy life here as we know it.

Kirchner makes sense. What's more, he hasn't listened to Bush's attempts to bully him into not conducting business with Venezuela.

2. They have different priorities.
It has been clear at least since VietNam that the economic
and social well-being of the nation at large are not considered
important compared to other issues like the continance in power
of the existing political elites. If it is necessary to turn the
USA into a banana republic to keep the existing oligarchy in
power, than a banana republic it will be.

3. Cheap Labor Conservatives are against the workers and want
total control. Can't control independent people.
