Peace rally of all faiths held in Kathmandu
Kathmandu, Sep 5 (UNI)

Hundreds of people belonging to Hindu, Muslim, Buddhists, Jain and other faiths took part in a peace rally in Kathmandu this morning during the relaxation of curfew, calling for national unity, goodwill and religious harmony.

Religious leaders of different faiths joined their hands and led the rally through major centers of the city organised for the first time since the government imposed curfew in the capital to control the demonstrators protesting the murder of 12 Nepalese youths in Iraq by a terrorist group. ..

Hundreds of Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims took part in the rally calling for peace and harmony. Many Muslims could be seen walking solemnly in the rally with Nepali caps on their heads. ..

Lawyers, teachers, professionals, businessmen, women and students as well as some foreign nationals also expressed their solidarity by joining the peace rally. The rally concluded with people praying for peace and social harmony at Ratnapark, according to their own faith. ..

2. Excellent news! I need something like that every day. About a year
ago there was some news about Brazil, Venezuela, and South Africa joining together for peace activity. (I hope I remember the countries correctly).

Peace hope- the lovliest of words. So much more beautiful than bombs massacres. Think about it.

3. Thank you for posting this. I had the great good fortune of visiting Nepal
for 3 weeks (FAR too short a time!) back in 1982. I absolutely fell in love with the place, that visit remains one of the most profound life experiences of my nearly 55 years on this planet. It has been heartbreaking to read of all the violence and unrest there in recent years.

From my very first venture out into the streets of Kathmandu, what struck me most powerfully was the seamless harmony of all the various faiths represented there, mingling in a joyous celebration of the Divine. There were shrines everywhere, statues of Hindu deities, Buddhist prayer flags, temples large and small; the city vibrated with spiritual energy.

That people from all these faiths would come together like this in a march for peace is only natural -- 22 years ago it was THE omnipresent reality of the culture. My prayers go with them.
