Bush's Republicans Battle to Retain Congress
Sun Sep 5, 2004 09:36 AM ET
Thomas Ferraro
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - As President Bush enters a tight two-month battle to win another term in the White House, fellow Republicans seem headed toward retaining control of a sharply divided U.S. Congress.

Surveys show a majority of Americans believe the country is on the wrong track, making for a close presidential contest between Bush and Democrat John Kerry and raising Democratic hopes on Capitol Hill as the Nov. 2 elections near.

Boy are those surveys right!!!

3. Yep. Swept from office in a Democratic landslide. The country is a
mess, it is the republicans fault, and they are going to pay dearly for it.

9. It really is the Republicans' fault
Conservative Republicans control the White House, the Supreme Court, and both Houses of Congress.

According to their own mythology and campaign promises, America should be paradise right now.

2. Congress is more important than the Presidency, in some ways.
Kicking out Republican incumbents (and DINOs) is the most
important thing you can vote for, after Kerry.

4. unfortunately, what the majority of Americans want doesn't matter
I hate to be a wet blanket, but congressional districts are so gerrymandered that very few are competitive.

I hope we can win back congress, but I'm not counting on it. I have much higher hopes for the Senate, though.

14. All the redistricting ticks me off. If they're bad enough though...
that's all you can count on is people getting really mad. Who knows, but yes, it's difficult to move Congress one direction these days. I can't believe none of the Repubs had the guts to switch sides - guess cause it's a guaranteed loss in the election.

6. I think Michael Moore has video on that
where a Bunch of Democratic Senators sat and watched meekly while Al Gore had the election Stolen

Not One of them stood up against Bush when they knew he stole it

12. what Moore convienently left out...
The reason no senator spoke up was because of a deal to keep dems on committees in the senate.

and even if one of them had "stood up", the outcome would have been the same, because the sElection would have been turned over to the House, which had/has a large repug majority.

15. what you fail to realize....
....is that by failing to force Republicans to follow the Constitutional provisions, no marker was laid for generations to come that a coup happened. The history books will show that Democrats agreed to let the presidency be seized through deceit, cronyism, racism, the twisting of the formerly immutable rule of law and the tainting of the judiciary for partisan gain.

It doesn't matter if the end result would have been the same.

What mattered was forcing Republicans to follow the Constitutional remedy and over-vote the democratic process, for the record, for generations to come.

If we are going to have a repub from Georgia, it might as well be a real pub and not a fake democrat.

11. I disagree.
Back in 2001, Zell gave us a majority in the Senate.

Whatever his ludicrous and hypocritical voting record, that counts for a lot with me.

13. I agree, but I'm scared Isacson might be able to pull it off.
I hope not! I really dislike him. But our only real hope is Atlanta!
