Condit suing over stories linking him to Levy's disappearance
WASHINGTON -- The mystery of Chandra Levy still prompts serious questions, some of which former U.S. Rep. Gary Condit will soon confront.

Now a private citizen, Condit is no longer hounded by reporters, and his public silence no longer carries political risk. But because he is pursuing several defamation lawsuits, he faces interrogation by hostile attorneys.

Later this month, attorneys hired by author Dominick Dunne will get their chance to grill Condit for up to seven hours. The deposition in New York City will follow up on Condit's earlier surrender of several boxes' worth of written documents.

"I'm eager to take some testimony from this fellow," said Paul LiCalsi, one of Dunne's new attorneys.

1. Another media distraction: Chandra! Chandra!
Since we no longer have Kobe around to talk in the 24/7 cable channels, lets resurrect the old Condit stuff.

3. Condit was the top news story for at least a month prior to 9/11
He should be relieved that Osama took him off the front page.

6. Um...he was ON the front page to distract from our government's plans
for 9-11. You don't think they were actually on vacation at the Pig Farm in August 2001, do you? Big plans to wrap up. They kept the peons occupied with Chandra and sharks.

7. Me too. I hate it when Republicans get to off whoever they want and
then get lucrative jobs for it.

10. Yes, mediawhores, let's talk about the little story of Lori Klausutis,
found dead in Scarborough's office, from major head trauma.

8. For a stroll down memory lane, you may want to peruse this ABC article
containing a clip with the always lovely Anne Marie Smith, a United Airlines flight attendant who magically appeared to give her opinion of an affair she had with Condit:
ANNE MARIE SMITH: I was spending a couple of days at his apartment, and I saw some brown hairs on the bathroom floor, like, long brown hair and I asked him about it, and I said, 'Whose hairs are these?' And he said, 'Well, they're yours.' And I said, 'No,' because my hair is not that long.

INTERVIEWER: Does it appear to you that, now having seen pictures of Chandra Levy on television, that those hairs could have been Chandra Levy's hair?

ANNE MARIE SMITH: When I first saw Chandra, I thought about that incident.

INTERVIEWER: That may have been her hair? ANNE MARIE SMITH: It may have been.
(End of clip)

Flight Attendant Says Condit
Should Have Been Honest From Start

Aug. 28 — Flight attendant Anne Marie Smith may feel bad for Rep. Gary Condit, but she is going ahead with legal action against him all the same.

It's very profitable for an administration in power if the press just goes wild over routine, ordinary stories, and ties up the air waves and uses all the ink on matters we're genuinely not interested in.

This is hardly what someone had in mind to have witlessly termed the press the people's watchdog. What we've got is something determined to keep us from knowing what Bush is doing in our President's office. The watchdog is guarding Republican interests, and keeping us at bay!
