Eleven shot, one stabbed during party in Virginia
DAWN, Va. (AP)

Eleven people were shot and one stabbed Monday during a party at a Virginia community center, authorities said.

Several victims were hospitalized, and at least one was in critical condition.

About 100 people had gathered at the Dawn Community Center, about 20 miles north of Richmond, when police were called about 2:30 a.m. ..

The sheriff said he did not know whether the violence began among those gathered for the party or whether someone from outside was responsible. ``That's something we're still looking into,'' he said.

Fredricka Dyson, who lives about a quarter of a mile from the center, said she was awakened by what she thought were firecrackers.

``It was rapid, rapid fire,'' she said. ``That's why I thought it was fireworks.''

8. Alcohol and gunpowder. What a lovely combination.

We, as a nation, have become savages. Don't get what you want? Pick up a gun, that'll convince them. We no longer discuss, we fight. Just look at any of the talking head shows. Talking is out of style. If you want to make a point, you shout.

Does anyone else get the feeling that we are devolving into savagery? But then, the law of the jungle is the guiding force of capitalism. What else can we expect?
