Bush: OB-GYNs kept from 'practicing their love'
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N06540712.htm

U.S. President George W. Bush offered an unexpected reason on Monday for cracking down on frivolous medical lawsuits: "Too many OB-GYNs aren't able to practice their love with women all across this country."

It is because of things like this that I believe all people who run for public office should have to past some sort of test like a GED plus mental health testing. I don't know whether if this makes me happy for once that I believe that Cheney is the one in charge or still be scared....

7. another forumite suggested he has aphasia. brain damage in the speech
center... affects both speaking and reading, apparently, which might be why he always says he doesn't read the paper. another thing... they keep protesters away from him. for people suffering from aphasia, loud noises, like a distracting radio, can keep them from being able to communicate at all. which is probably why he's so afraid to debate Kerry... Kerry's people probably know full well exactly what bush's medical condition is, and know that using some background noise could easily keep bush from staying on message.

22. Brain damage?
Reports by a White House insider, published on TBRNews.org reveal that George W. Bush is suffering from unspecified medical problems, characterized by "seizures" or "ministrokes," possibly due to so-called cocaine stroke.

A former cocaine addict, Bush has exhibited increasingly bizarre behavior in recent years, indicative of brain damage (See: http://www.drugabuse.gov/NIDA_Notes/NNVol13N3/Cocaine.html)

Bush's mental impairment is held in check by his handler Karl Rove and Dick Cheney has become the defacto president of the United States, according to the insider's report.

Bush's performance at his latest press conference was questioned due to his anomie, characteristic of his being under heavy medication.

Also Bush's unexplained "pretzel" dive and the resulting bruise on his face several years ago are indicative of brain damage.

Medical experts suggest that mental impairment may also be a sign of HIV infection, measurable even from the earliest stages of the disease. Usually referred to as 'AIDS Dementia' it is recognized as fogetfulness and confusion.

24. Remember the Doctor in Ohio?
Edited on Tue Sep-07-04 05:27 AM by MaineDem
Bush was pushing this "frivolous lawsuits" bit at a speech and he had an OB-GYN up on stage with him, whom he said was the victim of frivolous lawsuits. Bush claimed this man's malpractice premiums practically put him out of business.

It turns out this guy was an idiot doctor! He was an OB-GYN who had settled at least 2 malpractice cases out of court. He was an incompetent who should never have been near patients. The White House later admitted that, had then known about this guy's record, he would never have been on stage with the Prez. Tehy never vetted him at all!

I'll look for the link.

What is it with Bush and OB-GYNs? The fact they perform abortions?

And Bush's statement is just plain crazy!!!

Edited to add: If any doctor practices his "love" on me he deserves to be sued!

29. okay, i've been thinking about this all night, and i have a big question.
why on earth would bush be focussing on OB-GYNs when they are the most likely doctors to perform abortions? why is it he's worried at all that they are out of work? is he just trying in his own perverted way to appeal more to women?

and why would a gay president whose wife resorted to artificial insemination (why do you think they were fraternal twins?) be talking about OB-GYN doctors at all? 8^)

34. Do they have the higest number of lawsuits?
I've been thinking about this, too.

I seem to remember that OB-GYNs may be susceptible to more lawsuits because of the potential complications from delivery. I may also be dreaming this but there's something in the back of my head that says this.

But, in any case, the Chimp is still an idiot!

50. Yes,
OBs have a very high rate of being sued. Many OB-GYNs don't even do OB anymore because of the malpractcice issues.

Per a post above, settling two malpractice suits out of court is no indication of a Dr's competence. Drs, competent or incompetent, are sued frequently.

66. Shy Patient
During her annual checkup, the well-built young woman was asked to disrobe and climb onto the examining table.

"Doctor," she replied shyly, "I just can't undress in front of you."

"All right," said the physician, "I'll flick off the lights. You undress and tell me when you're through."

In a few moments, her voice rang out in the darkness: "Doctor, I've undressed. What shall I do with my clothes?"

"Put them on the chair, on top of mine."

As Rick James would say.

Another explanation is he gets nervous making speeches. Some of you might laugh, but that happens to me. I give *terrible* speeches, mess up constantly, but do ok in normal conversation. Yeah, it's probably bad if that happens to the president as well, but it is common.

I think he meant to say

"Too many OB/GYNs are unable to practice the profession they love because of lawsuits."

I've been hearing about OB/GYNs and sky-high malpractice premiums on NPR and other media outlets for year. There is a real problem in more remote/rural areas, where often the OB/GYNs just hang it up and leave the area without that kind of care for many miles around.

I still think Bush sounded stupid, but that doesn't mean it's not something people should be concerned about.

74. How Do The Freepers Respond To This... ??
Do they laugh nervously, or try to explain it away, or are they JUST AS AWARE AS WE ARE that Bush is a boozer and a coked-out idiot?

75. Send it to Bushisms at Slate
Slate editor Jake Weisberg has collected enough Bushisms to fill at least two volumes. This one has Bushism of the Day written all over it, so send it along to bushisms@slate.com and bask in the glory...

76. When I hear this story...
...all I can think of is the classic flub from a church bulletin: "Next Tuesday, there will be a meeting of the Little Mothers Club. Any woman wishing to become a Little Mother should meet privately with the minister in his study."
