Kerry foreign policy experience impresses campaign volunteer
Portland Press Herald

Within days of the opening of the Kerry campaign's Portland headquarters on Kennebec Street on Aug. 28, Sarah Shmitt, 47, had joined the campaign. ..

Q: What got you involved this year?

A: My incredible antipathy toward Bush and his whole Cabinet and his advisers. I am very impressed with Kerry's foreign policy experience and his ability to work across the aisle. ..

Q: If you had a chance to talk to him, what would you say?

A: Probably the things I am most interested in. One, of course, is the war and how he intends to get us out of the mess we are in. One is the Patriot Act, which I think is terrifying. Education, of course, and No Child Left Behind, which we call No Teacher Left Standing. And the environment. I really like his policies on the environment. I guess at the top of my list are education and the war. ..
