Kerry campaign, supporters get tough on Bush
RACINE, W.Va. - (KRT) - Sen. John Kerry's campaign has a new, unofficial strategy: To get even, get mad.

Across Ohio and into West Virginia this Labor Day weekend, Kerry supporters took to the campaign stage with mocking, caustic, scornful rhetoric directed at President Bush's military service and Vice President Dick Cheney's lack of service. Kerry stood by smiling, hands clasped, as the invective flew.

"When John Kerry was dodging bullets in Vietnam, George Bush and Dick Cheney were dodging the draft in the United States," Cecil Roberts, president of the United Mine Workers of America, declared Monday at a Labor Day picnic here.

In Akron, Ohio, Mayor Donald Plusquellic described Bush as "hiding in the woods in Alabama" while Kerry "was defending our country."

4. Actually, probably both. First he
got shit-faced in the bar, then he relieved himself in the woods.

5. Strike back. Paybacks are hell!
I say let the surrogates tell it like it is and Kerry should keep hammering Bush on his lousy record.

7. I have a question:
Why is criticism of Bush's war record called "mocking, caustic, scornful rhetoric," while criticism of Kerry's called "deserved because he made his war service an issue?"

8. You missed the memo: It's KERRY'S fault that Bush lies about his record!!
Since Kerry "made such an issue" out of his service, theat means the GOP & media are ALLOWED to make shit up about him. Right?

10. Great article
I am SO glad that The State (a South Carolina paper) picked up this article from the Chicago Tribune.

I have relatives in South Carolina who are Republicans, but I have hope that one of them will either sit out the election rather than vote for Bush.

11. texans for truth?
first i've heard of them. :D

"Before the convention, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth launched its advertising campaign questioning whether Kerry deserved his medals and criticizing him for his anti-war protests.

Many of the group's assertions about Kerry have since been discredited, but a new group, Texans for Truth, has sprung up to question Bush's participation in his National Guard unit while in Alabama.

In a television ad to begin airing Friday, Bob Mintz, a lieutenant colonel in the Alabama Air National Guard during the time Bush was supposed to have been there in 1972, will say he never saw Bush at the base even though he looked for him, according to a spokeswoman for the group.

Kerry officials said Monday that they have nothing to do with the group or its ad campaign."

13. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. This *isn't* working. And it *won't* work.
Attention, neo-liberal warriors: the people are sick of this shit. Look at the new results on electoral-vote.com. Now Kerry's about to lose Minnesota (!) as he suddenly trails by about 40 EVs.

Potential Kerry voters don't want to hear about "heroism" in Vietnam. Vietnam is a source of agony and shame. Any service there of 30 years ago is easily overcome today by right wing propaganda. Did the fate of Max Cleland teach you nothing? Even guys who got blown to hell can't woo with their wounds--not via that accursed war.

Unbelievable as it may be the cretinous Bush is well-liked personally, and saying he is a draft-dodger, while true enough, won't even dent that fact. Worse, any attempt can't help but fail while half the volk are still spinning like dervishes in Full Patriotism Mode (a frenzy in which the Democratic Party, of course, foolishly helped to put them by supporting the invasion of Iraq).

Stow the Vietnam gear already. The weak point is the economy.

Every time John Kerry opens his mouth from now until November, the first word that shovels forth should be "jobs."

16. Yup. The economy, the mess in Iraq -m
are the two big issues. Kerry definitely hurt himself with his "I still would have voted for it" statement... (don't get that). But the fact remains that the country gave the president a chance to do the right thing, and he and his people screwed up royally.

And on the economy, we just have to keep bringing the message home to people -- one at a time, talking about how Bush is affecting THEM and their lives now. And what further damage another four years could do.

Vietnam was a loser then; I think that's probably still the case. Plenty of ammunition (if you will) with what's going on today.
