Keyes Says Christ Would Not Vote For Obama
According to a list of quotes put out by the Democratic candidate, Keyes said in a radio interview at the Republican National Convention that Jesus would not vote for Obama. The quote was part of a list Obama sent reporters of Keyes' accusations and epithets about him since Keyes became a candidate, NBC5 political editor Dick Kay said.

Kay also reported that Keyes called Obama a "socialist and a liar" on a cable access news show on Monday. Obama said he wants to win big to give Keyes a spanking because Keyes wages a scorched earth campaign. Keyes then went into a very long analysis of the word "spanking" and suggested it might be related to slavery and insulting to African- Americans. He would not answer when asked directly if he was insulted.

90. Christ does not know these right wingers that use his name
They may throw his name around and pretend to be his followers but in reality Christ will not know these right wing fanatics that use his name in vain. Likewise Christ will not know the bush coward that also uses his name in vain for political reasons.

47. Yes it IS legal (not) in Texas as long as you're in the military in Del Ri
Del Rio, Texas... check out this bullshit they pulled in 1996:

RELEASE DATE: On or After March 21, 1997 LATINO SPECTRUM by Roberto Rodriguez & Patrisia Gonzales Questionable Military Votes Decide Election in South Texas County

Who has the right to vote in a local election? In the county of Val Verde in South Texas, the issue is in hot dispute. And it's not even summer.

The dispute centers on whether military personnel should be allowed to vote in communities where they do not live or intend to make their home. This case involves mostly officers who at one point were stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, located in Val Verde County, but now live elsewhere. They are primarily white, while the majority of the residents of Val Verde are Mexican American.

55. Yep, they're toast.
According to a Chicago Tribune/WGN-TV poll conducted between August 13-16, 2004, 29% of Republicans are less likely to vote for Republican candidates because of the way the Republicans chose Alan Keyes.

87. Yep, that's what I'm thinking too
Keyes is basically a trial balloon to begin energizing their core base. They knew they wouldn't be able to find a candidate that could legitimately take on Obama so they decided to go to the extreme. The next time around, and far right winger will sound like a moderate compared to Keyes. It's all up from there.

88. You're giving them way too much credit
Keyes is a disaster. The party is in disrepair. If they wanted to energize their base, they could have gone with Oberweis, who actually came in 2nd behind Sex-club Ryan.

You're right about it being all upside after Keyes gets 32% of the vote.

89. I never understood why
they didn't go with Oberwiess. That he came in second, it would seem to me that he would have had a more credibility than that extremist Keyes. Their voters decided Oberweiss...you'ld think they would have enough respect for them to have put him up.

Maybe I am giving them too much credit. I just don't trust them.

96. Don't live in Illinois
(I'm in Missouri), but I'm assuming the reason they didn't run the second-place repub is because of clueless repub thinking about race. In their minds, their only 'hope' was to run an African-American against Obama. Just shows how their conservatism, er, racism, blinds them to the realities of certain situations.

119. That was in fact one of the reasons they ran Keyes
because they figured running a black against a black would show they weren't anti-black. They also figured they could pick up a lot of the black christian vote with Keyes.

118. I suspect the only thing against Oberweis
was the anti-hispanic ads he was running constantly and they knew he was pissing off all of the hispanic vote. Also it disagrees with the Bush plan to legalize the illegal immigrants, so the IL GOP was afraid they wouldn't get the national support from the RNC? I guess they felt Oberweis couldn't win, whereas they felt Keyes, with his national "fame" could win / energize the Republican voters in this state.

115. It fascinates me that they didn't go with Oberweis
because he had the money, the desire, he is very right wing on choice, etc. Yeah Keyes is a disaster, but I found out recently from a very high level GOP person in those meetings at the Union League Club to get a new Senate candidate that only four (FOUR!!!!) people voted against Keyes. That was very disturbing to me. Very disturbing for our state, in my humble.

116. see my post 115
thanks and glad you agree. I don't like what's going on at all with the GOP in IL (or elsewhere). There's too much "stuff" on certain conservative boards that they are mad at Keyes for his evangelical, preaching style, but they aren't angry at all with his central messages. So I really do think more extreme social conservatives will be run by the IL. GOP in the future, but the next time they will make sure the candidates won't have Keyes' bombastic, combative style. They have learned very quickly Keyes is the wrong guy. These people continue to scare the hell out of me.

97. Keyes Is Crazy Like A Fox
I think Keyes "crazy" behavior is very calculated. He knows he has next to no chance of winning but he is not running to win. Keyes makes his living by being a celebrity. He is famous for being famous and needs to keep his name in the media to continue to be so. And, saying ridiculous things is the best way to do so.

By keeping his name in the limelight and saying bombastic, bullshit stuff, he maintains his celebrity status. Just like Ann Coulter, he can continue to rake in the dough by saying crazy-assed things. But I do believe that half of the shit they actually believe. They've just adopted a style that works to keep them in demand for TV and the speakers circuit.

19. This is how Jesus would vote:
Kerry, because he is the underdog, the thoughtful person, the loyal son, the lawful, the truthful, the calm, the better person, the one who turns the other cheek and takes the high road, the one who welcomes the poor into our party, the one who welcomes the outcast, the throw-aways, the tender hearted, the gentle giants, the real.

He'd have voted for Gore, who would have protected the Father's Universe, he would have condemned plants dumping waste in the beautiful waters, he would have condemned Bush's big Tax Break for Hummers and large SUV's...100K tax breaks.

He'd have voted for Edwards, a family man, worked from the bottom up, learned integrity, grit, and what hard work means. Learned the value of being humble, to listen and to fight for what is right, not what is profitable every time.

Jesus would have asked Key on what basis does he throw these accusations at his brother?

He would have asked Bush, why have you talked about your brothers like this? Have I taught you nothing? Have you not listened?

But that'd mean Jesus exist because I fail to believe a just Savior would allow these things to continue without retribution. We shall see I guess.

I mean its obvious they put Keyes up to it because hes black BUT I'm SURE they have another black man who is in the GOP who is not as nutty as Keyes. Are they trying to destroy Keyes by putting him in a race he cannot win? or are they trying to Bait Oboma into attacking Keyes in a way that could be used for the GOP advantage when Oboma rises in the democratic party?
Ether way Keyes cannot win and every time he opens his yap with dumb stuff like this it just makes his chances of even coming close even less so I have to wonder why are they doing this

right alongside Jerry Falwell. The majority of Republican voters rejected Alan Keyes as a candidate in 2000. Keyes makes Pat Buchanan look like a progressive!

73. Actually, we should promote Keyes as a mainstream Republican
while he is shunned publicly, he is pretty reflecting the current agenda that this administration is enacting. People should know that when voting for Congressional Republicans. At least he says what he means....he's not running to the middle to get elected.

38. I think Christ was a socialist.
One of the best ever socialists, too. I heard the guy once took a basket of crackers and a bucket of spit, redistributed it amongst a crowd of people, and made them all happy by doing it.

Some people say it was a miracle, but the socialists keep telling me no, that's just the way socialism works.

I'm going to run away now.

43. Keyes sounds a lot like Conspiracy Brother
in that certain words like "spank" set off these fits about slavery and The Man. But, of course, Conspiracy Brother would NEVER vote for Keyes. In fact, Keyes would be a target for the B.R.O.T.H.E.R.H.O.O.D.

Ah, Mr. Keyes, could we get a list of the words that set off these fits?

54. A big gift with a giant red bow on top
First, George Ryan with his bribes for licenses scandal. Then Jack Ryan trying to coerce "6 of 9" into having sex in public. Now Keyes -- as mad as a hatter. We are a blessed state. Keyes may put the final nail into the Republican party in Illinois - at least for the next decade or so. Amen to that!

BTW, thanks for the edit tip, and thanks for the welcome!

Jesus H. Christ (also known as: Prince of Peace, Lamp Unto My Feet, Emmanuel, Holy One, etc.) released a statement today as follows:

"Verily, I say unto Alan Keyes and his Republican brethren, if you don't stop taking my name and my Father's name in vain, you will be extracting my size 11.5 sandal from your ass. You are also in violation of our rules against greed, envy, wrath, pride, bearing false witness, killing, coveting your neighbor's goods, stealing, rendering unto Caesar what is Caesar's, loving your neighbor as yourself, and judging not. Too bad that Obama is forced to play along with Keyes' shenanigans, but he does it so well.

Obama Says Voters, God Should Judge Him

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040908/ap_on_el_se/senate_race_religion_2

"I will leave Mr. Keyes to the theological speculations. My job is to focus on the issues that voters care about — jobs, health care, education," Obama said. He added, "I'm not running to be the minister of Illinois. I'm running to be its United States senator..." (more)
