WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush nominated telecommunications executive Paul Crotty on Tuesday to be a U.S. district judge in the Southern District of New York. If confirmed by the Senate, Crotty would replace Harold Baer Jr., who is retiring.

Since 1997, Crotty has been group vice president for Verizon Communications for public policy and external affairs for New York and Connecticut.

From 1994 to 1997, Crotty was a corporate counsel in New York. Before that, he worked four years in various positions at the New York City Office of Financial Services.

3. None of those positions qualify him for a federal judgeship - and none
involve trial experience and knowledge of law.

Unbelievable. Southern District NY is an important area - of course - no wonder - lots of business lawsuits - Southern District sets legal precedent for other jurisdictions -- you never hear Oklahmoma Federal Judges being quoted, right?
