Dems' ad buys show a race narrowing to 14 states; Arizona not included
The Associated Press

Sen. John Kerry and the Democratic Party are limiting television advertising to just 14 states as the fall campaign opens, curbing their ambitions for a broader playing field against President Bush. The shift reduces Missouri, Colorado, Arizona and four Southern states to second-tier status.

The Republican incumbent is likely to follow suit, perhaps by pulling money out of those same seven GOP-leaning states and shifting it to traditionally Democratic battlegrounds. ..

1. I just read the article and am curious
What polls show Bush ahead by double digits in Arizona and Missouri? Zogby has Missouri tied.

3. Huh?
Just because it's not in the first ad buy doesn't mean it's not going to be competitive. It makes sense to target red states like NH, OH and FL at this point.

6. I doubt anybody ever thought Edwards could deliver NC
NC hasn't voted for a Democratic president since Jimmy Carter - and that one was close.

The reasons for choosing Edwards involved a much broader strategy, I suspect. Edwards connects well with people in many of the swing states, including OH, WV, and MO.

Kerry doesn't need to win NC. He does need to win at least one swing state. Edwards was a good choice. He will be a good VP.

10. I second that told-ya-so
Bush bumper stickers outnumber Kerry 10-to-1 here. Edwards couldn't even retain his Senate seat if he were running. That's just the way it is.

4. According to the article
Kerry is advertising in 9 states that Gore won &

5 states that Bush won.

Is this correct?

7. we are seriously motivated on the ground here in AZ and
the Texans for Truth are playing their ad here.

I bet the Kerry campaign's internal polls show a totally different story than the AZ RePukelic. There "poll" was only 600 registered voters

9. Just came back from campaign strategy meeting...
Kerry campaign rep said they are not paying too much attention to polls. "If the poll numbers are up we get complacent. If the poll numbers are down we get frustrated and depressed."

We just have to work like hell everywhere!

According to this article, Kerry is putting Mo and Az on the back burner because he's trailing in those states by double digits.

Says who?

Bush is up by 3% in Arizona and tied with Kerry in Missouri.

WHAT BULLSHIT.

13. Acrually the DNC is airing in the other states like Virginia
Kerry buy announcing where he is advertising, opens the door for others to advertise in the other states.

I have seen DNC ads last weekend. Which was after kerry said he stopped advertising in virginia
