Thatcher faces probing day in court
Johan Schronen
September 09 2004 at 02:39PM

A camera-shy Mark Thatcher avoided a large media contingent at Wynberg police station on Wednesday when he arrived to sign the bail register for the first time.

According to his R2-million bail conditions, Thatcher has to sign the bail book in the charge office daily.

But there was much media confusion when the son of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher drove straight past the constabulary when he noticed the press contingent.

It was later discovered that police helped him to sneak into the police station through a back gate.

Meanwhile, Thatcher has been ordered to appear in the Wynberg regional court to answer Equatorial Guinea prosecutors' questions in relation to the coup attempt trial, in which more than a dozen alleged mercenaries are in the dock in Malabo.
