Bush Warns of 'Hidden Kerry Tax Plan' (protester "pulled out by her hair")
COLMAR, Pa. (AP)

President Bush (news - web sites) on Thursday blamed the Clinton administration for the loss of hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs and warned against backing the Democratic ticket in November because of a "hidden Kerry tax plan." ,,

In fact, Kerry has proposed raising taxes on only the top 2 percent of wage earners while leaving cuts for the middle-class in place. ..

Bush's opening remarks were disrupted repeatedly by the shouts of protesters, and four were forcibly removed, one pulled out by her hair.

Bush smiled tightly as the protests erupted, trying not to let them throw him off his prepared remarks. "We are here because the entrepreneurial spirit is strong, because there is an optimism in this room that says it can remain stronger," he said.

7. Reminds me of the ads I'd see in comic books when I was a kid...
The ones where they showed you all the great stuff you get for selling "Grit" subscriptions.
Has anyone ever seen a copy of "Grit"?

It's kinda lightweight--the Editor's Note this month is all about her husband ordering a package of honeybees. It doesn't seem to be a right-wing rag, though.

22. Well, I'll be doggoned! It lives!
We hear from readers every week who either sold GRIT as a youngster or remember their parents or grandparents buying GRIT from a local newsboy who came to their door...
...These youngsters learned valuable lessons in honesty, integrity and perseverance by selling the magazine.

Sure, honesty, integrity and perseverance are nice but did they get the bike or the baseball mitt? :D

20. Just don't ever send them three bucks for the "Remote Control Ghost"
It doesn't "amaze and mystify your friends"...in fact, they'll mock the Remote Control Ghost, and three bucks was a big chunk o' change for a kid in the 60's. :eyes:

Oh...the Remote Control Ghost was a white balloon and a piece of string. You taped on kleenex (not included) to make it more ghostly,
throw the string over the top of the door, and pull on it to make the Remote Control Ghost rise mysteriously. My ears are turning red again just remembering it... :eyes:

29. Wow, I remember that stuff!
I wanted the sea monkeys too. And the Amazing Teeth Whitener. And, of course, the X-Ray glasses.

I don't remember Grit, though. It sounds a lot like Countryside Magazine and Small Stock Journal. Lots of wingers and yet not remotely devoted to politics (they just come out sometimes in the editorials and letters). Great source of info, though, if you want to do some small farming/livestock-raising/independent living.

37. Actually I have
GRIT is a thin newspaper with loads of ad inserts that keep falling out, the content unmemorable folksy fluff. Of course it sticks out by being very hard for us to work and keep the paper together but its circulation is scattered and much less than say, The Nation, The Army Times. Still, a respectable steady subscription base.

What America reads is very interesting and explains quite a lot why people are not up to the intense critical level demanded by today's political crisis- or anything else for that matter.

There is no justification for this kind of suppression. I still think this is Kerry's to lose, presuming the election is not stolen again. Facism is becoming as Amerikan as apple pie.

8. I saw that on TV earlier
including the girl who got led out by her hair. It appeared that they were all "escorted out" pretty much immeadiately after they started yelling. It was a pretty large crowd and it seemed odd to me that security just happened to be right there. So I was wondering if the people who took them out were just members of the crowd - which looked pretty hostile to the protestors.

If those were individuals and not authorized security, the protestors should file assault charges against them.

26. I think the opposite is true. If they are security, they're in big trouble
The woman is being assaulted. If that is security, there will be hell to pay. That man should be in jail. Notice the left hand bracing her body while the right hand pulls her hair. That is intent to do injury.

28. Since he's touching her, it's battery
And, it's definitely actionable. She should do something, even if it's only for the principle of the matter.

If he's security he may have a defense, but I don't think it's within the scope of his job to remove people by the hair.

Ack! These jackbooted thugs. Let's hope we see the last of them soon.

30. I still think security would be in the deepest doo doo.
There are well defined guidelines when subduing a suspect. I have read them but am no expert. What I do remember is very clear that any method which could lead to injury (such as a neck injury) can only be used as a last resort when the subduer is in eminent danger due to resistance from the suspect. Security or not, this guy has a BIG problem with the photos. I wish I knew how to contact that woman. She should see a doctor immediately to have her neck examined.

19. i think the divisiveness in this country has become
something very tangible.
the storm troopers in 00, the actual theft, the arrests and prosecutions at gop convention, the beating and stomping of the Young lady, and again here.
of course i see many more examples -- but i'll stop here.
i hope the moderates see something more positive than i do -- but then again i partly blame them for incidents like these.
you cannot treat these people decently -- because they have no decency.

42. I didn't see this event..but to be fair, I DID see some people arm
wrestle a protestor in Cinncinati when Kerry was there. Some male attendees put an arm lock on the dude's neck and wrestled him to the ground right in the stands...

I was hoping Kerry or someone would yell out: don't harm the guy
Just so that our side shows more balance and decency. Apparently, that protestor in Cinnci was finally escorted out by security.

I'm NOT saying these pics of this woman being jerked around are decent or proper....I'm just trying to keep balance and fairness in our debates, over such things. O8)
