CNN: Eisner saying goodbye to Mickey
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 08:22 AM by kysrsoze
Eisner, who has led the company for nearly 20 years, sent a letter to the board of the Walt Disney Co. on Thursday saying he planned to retire at the expiration of his employment contract Sept. 30, 2006.

Eisner, 62, was stripped of the his position as chairman after about 43 percent of shareholders voted in May not to return him to the board. But he retained the support of the company's board, despite attacks from two former board members, Stanley Gold and Roy Disney, the nephew of company founder Walt Disney.

Woohoo! Miracles never cease! Of course I wonder just how big his golden parachute will be. Bring back Roy.

7. What? Eisner was terrible!
Edited on Fri Sep-10-04 08:54 AM by kysrsoze
I hold Eisner personally responsible for gutter trash like Little Mermaid 3, Lion King 1 1/2, Pinocchio 2, losing Pixar and the awful, AWFUL comedies on ABC where they practically have to hold up a sign that says, "This is supposed to be funny. Please laugh now." Let's not forget that Disney Co. also refused to release F-9/11 under its production companies. Censorship!

He was well on his way to ruining Disney and the shareholders obviously believe that too.

16. In my lifetime,
the two worst things to have happened to the Walt Disney Company
were the deaths of Walt Disney and Frank Wells.

3. As a 15 year Disney vet
I second that! Roy's great; he cares about the workers and product quality. Every time he visited the studio, he was more than happy to chat with ANYONE who approached him. I've NEVER had a conversation with Eisner, though I've met him many times. Mike has "Enronized" Disney for the past decade. Well past time for his departure!

5. eisner raised prices extensively and did not raise lower employee
wages...His salary was inexcusable. He did no care about visitors. Walt wanted a family park where families could afford to come. Eisner cut hours, raised prices.

Yes he added some neat things. But much of the extra cost lined his pockets just like CEOs everywhere who are part of Cheap Labor Conservatives.

6. Hey Mikey!
Don’t let the door hit you in the arse. Good riddance, you sorry-ass greedy CEO. Go get under the covers with you buddies in Bushland. They might have a job for you at some other place where they pay there workers too much money; you could fix that, right? Oh wait, maybe Betsy Devos has a job for ya hear in Michigan. Now there's a real woman when it comes to keeping those workers in line! :(

14. Cue Handels Messiah
The skies have opened and Walt is shining down in Ahaheim and all his brethern. This is JOYOUS. I KNEW he wasnt going to leave BY Roy. He was going to leave on HIS terms on HIS time. Now let me just say that is Disney fans were split into political parites id be up there w/ Falwell, Robertson, Santorum, etc. BUT, i also believe this puts a HUGE dent in SaveDisney. I mean WHAT NOW? Roy got what he wanted, LATER than SOONER. The best he can do now w/ Stanley, is to nominate the new slate of directors later this year. All in all, im THRILLED and looking foward to Disneylands 50th next year!

17. By "Handel's Messiah," I assume you mean
the "Hallelujah Chorus," rather than "For behold, darkness shall cover the earth," or "Behold, a Virgin shall conceive," LOL!

How about these Messiah numbers, appropriate for Eisner:
"He was despised"
"All they that see him laugh... "
"But Thanks be to God..."

15. Maybe we could get a collection of donations going
We could gather up enough cash to buy out the rest of his contract.

How much could a stinking heap be worth anyway

20. Its NOT over......
....ite never over

http://www.jimhillmedia.com/mb/articles/showarticle.php?ID=1078

Speaking of which ... Let's start by dispelling everyone's first misconception. That -- when Michael Eisner steps down as head of the Walt Disney Company effective September 30, 2006 -- that this means that we won't have Uncle Mikey to kick around anymore.

WRONG! According to corporate insiders that I've spoken with, the terms of Eisner's employment agreement with the Mouse House call for Michael to continue on as a paid consultant for the Walt Disney Company for a period of no less than three years. So -- even after he steps down as CEO -- Eisner's still going to have a say in how the Disney corporation is run.

More importantly, I keep hearing that Michael is looking to pull a Card Walker. As in: Just as Disney's former Chairman & CEO did 'way back in May of 1983, Eisner wants to go from running the Walt Disney Company to taking a position on the corporation's Board of Directors. Which (obviously) would allow Eisner to continue to have a say in how the Mouse House is run.

21. Eisner may not be a sweetheart, but isn't Roy Disney a hardcore RWer?
Down to his recent hard-line stance against Gay Days at the theme parks. It's possible that Disney & its holdings will swing even further rightward, though in a more 'religious conservative' than 'corporate conservative' flavor.
