Blacks Enlist Groups to Court New Voters
WASHINGTON (AP) - Motivated by unpleasant memories of the 2000 Florida recount, black leaders determined to boost voter turnout this fall are enlisting hip-hop artists and community organizations in campaigns to register millions of new voters.

``The mobilization of young voters is the revolutionary concept this year,'' said Maya Rockeymoore, vice president of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

Rockeymoore said the foundation is reaching out to younger voters through registration and educational initiatives at historically black colleges and inner city areas across the country.

``A lot of people think that politics is something in a box that doesn't necessarily have anything to do with them,'' she said. ``We're trying to explain to them politics in terms of policies and why it relates to their lives.''

1. You mean bush* didn't convince them that he had their best interests
at heart when he gave that lame ass speech in front of that group of black leaders. What was it? I know it sure wasn't the NAACP, he refused to talk to them.

Somehow it seems so ironic that he tried to court the votes of the very people he disenfranchised last time around. George must have fried the part of his brain that controls memory. I know that the part that controls conscience bit the turf a long time ago.

2. This is our secret weapon, along with young whites voting in record...
Numbers, because they are afraid of the draft-as well they should be!

Blacks got ran roughshod over last election, no doubt about it...I think I read one million of their votes were disallowed nationwide.

I think there is going to be a bunch of 'surprise' voters come election day.

3. "Polls" cannot measure the passion escalating in this country.
Those who control the "polls",...cannot contain the tide.
