Newsweek poll has Bush lead at 6, drops 5 points in week
Even better, it's just a 5-point lead in a two-way race, and his approval rating's below 50 percent again, at 48 percent.

for quite a while now, and the Freepers at work don't like it. Thats why they shut up.

8. Wow, I didn't even see that!
That's an even worse ratio than last week, when it was 38 percent Repukes and 31 percent Dems, yet Kerry-Edwards are doing much better. If they had polled 39 Dem, 35 Repuke, which was the turnout in 2000, K-E might be ahead!

Their ratios reflect the number of Democrats who they expect to be
allowed to vote and have their votes actually count.

no party affiliation weight unless they forgot to list it.

plus the raw numbers say that kerry leads independents, so i don't know how he can't lead the whole poll.

15. Yes, he has a 6-point lead among independents
which is great news, and Bush is polling at only 39 percent among that group, which is bad. Also, I noticed Kerry is now polling 87 percent of Dems and losing just 7 percent to Bush, which is major improvement in the past week.

36. Thanks for pointing this out
It seems to me that they are only polling Democrats from "Democratic" States. If you look down in the poll only 12 states are listed as "Democratic".

CA, CT, DE, DC, HI, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, RI, VT

16. And electoral votes is the only number that counts.

We must not let the GOP run media scare us with these twisted polls. They will lose and they know it. They are trying to convince the people that bush is unstoppable. He is not unstoppable. He is the reincarnation of the emperor caligula. Little Boots they called him. Perfect name for *

The breakdown would be

Ind: 250

And the results...

Bush/Cheney: 45%
Kerry/Edwards: 47%
Nader/Camejo: 2%

20. It looks to me like...
the media COULD be spinning the polls to make the race look close so that IF they rig the voting machines it will look like another squeaker for Bu$h. That in tandem with the dirty bomb they MAY plant in a shipping container or the POSSIBLE coming war in Iran in defense of our noble ally Israel should do the trick.

God forbid one should vote for the intelligent and well-informed cnadidate vs. the idiot that got us in our current mess.

30. So much for the Swift Boat Vets Against Kerry FLOP:
And from what they've seen, heard or read about Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry's military service in Vietnam, just 17 percent of registered voters say it has made them less likely to vote for him, the poll shows. Sixty-four percent say it hasn't made much of a difference either way. Fifteen percent say it has made them more likely to vote for him, the poll shows.

HAHA!

I had faith that Americans would see through that, and it appears from this sample, at least, that they did.

37. And looks like TANG story on * is making a bit of a difference
One of the bigger election stories of the past week centered on new doubts about whether the president had fulfilled his military obligations during Vietnam. With recent reports suggesting that as a younger man Bush did not meet his stateside National Guard obligations during the Vietnam war, voters are split on what they believe-42 percent of all voters say they now have serious doubts, the same number says he did his duty. The president’s personal ratings on honesty took a hit this week, with 55 percent saying they view Bush as “honest and ethical” and 40 percent saying they do not. Seven days ago, those numbers were 62 percent and 33 percent.

Bringing down his honesty factor.

Even though the WH tries to spin that the TANG history was well known, it was not in the 2000 election. The damn media didn't do its job on this back in 2000.

Now I wonder if there will be a Kitty Kelley factor.

Kelley also claims that the First Couple went to pot parties on the British Virgin Islands with Laura Bush's college roommate Jane Clark and her pal, Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax.

To back up the much-rumored story of the younger George Bush getting an abortion for a girlfriend, Kelley cites Hustler magazine publisher Larry Flynt.

Kelley offers no new insights into Bush's controversial stint in the Texas Air National Guard. But the Bush that appears in her book is a mean ex-drunk who mistreats his wife, believes Jews can't go to heaven and is terrified of "looking wimpish."
